The 10th Annual Art Show and Sale of the Silver Brush Art Society will be held at the Weaver, Bennett, and Bland building, 196 N. Trade Street in historic downtown Matthews, NC, on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, from 5:30-9:30pm and continuing Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, from 9:30am-5pm.
This is the 10th year that members of the Silver Brush Art Society have supported the Matthews Help Center from the sale of their art works. Prudy Weaver, one of the founding partners says, “Over the years, the Silver Brush Art Society has donated close to $25,000 to the Help Center,” a charitable organization which operates only from donations.
Four important components embrace this event. The first is the Silver Brush Art Society comprised of fine art artists Prudy Weaver, Peggy Simmons, John Moeslin, Cynthia Howard, Sharon Schwenk, Shane Somerset, Sharon Furner and jeweler, Julie Johnson. The artists work in all the major mediums. Each has a distinctive style in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and subject matter at reasonable prices for the holidays.
The second component consists of the attorneys and employees of the law firm of Weaver, Bennett and Bland who generously stop working for two days while furniture and existing works of art are stored allowing each artist an entire office space for displaying his/her art work.
The third component is the Matthews Help Center. Kim Rhodarmor, Executive Director, says, “This is the 31st anniversary of the Matthews Help Center and the 9th year with the Silver Brush Art Society.” Six employees and 150 volunteers offer many services such as crisis assistance; health, food and nutritional; school clothing and supplies; holiday adoption; and temporary housing. The Thrift Shop offers high quality clothes, shoes, home goods, house wares, books, and it takes in donations of any kind. The Center has more than quadrupled its services in just this past year.
The Silver Brush Art Society along with Weaver, Bennett and Bland, and the Matthews Help Center need you, the fourth component and the most important one, to come and make Nov.12 & 13, 2010, a very special and successful event.
