Charleston, SC’s inaugural ReceiverFest, Mar. 10-13, 2011, will present the work of over twenty artists from across the country in eleven noteworthy venues on the peninsula. All artists selected for inclusion in the festival work with time-based media. ReceiverFest will showcase video art, sonic art, kinetic sculpture, and performance and participatory art, allowing viewers to discover and experience new developments in contemporary art in a city-wide context. All exhibitions and performances are free to attend.
The four-day festival opens with David Bowen’s solo exhibition, drift, at Redux Contemporary Art Center on Thursday evening, Mar. 10, 2011. Bowen is the Featured Artist of ReceiverFest. Other participating artists include Christine Kirouac, Ruthless Animals, Sarah Buckius, Ian Mozdzen, Jenny Herrick, Tara Parsons, Robbie Land, and Sean Robinson. Local artists featured are Mason Greenewald, Nick Jenkins, Sam Sfirri, and Marshall Thomas.
Appropriately, Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, Mar. 13, 2011. Come celebrate spring’s temporal shift and the festival’s finale with a special evening of experimental music by New Music Collective at Gage Hall at 7pm.
The festival’s exhibition sites include Redux Contemporary Art Center, the Communication Museum at College of Charleston, the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, the Old City Jail (American College of the Building Arts), and Robert Lange Studios, SCOOP Studios, among several others.
