Artspace’s Shop Artspace spring fundraiser, held on April 12-14, 2012, in Raleigh, NC, raised critical funds for at-risk youth, specifically benefitting the Artspace Summer Arts Program Scholarship Fund and the Artspace Outreach Program. The weekend event was designed to allow shoppers to support local Artspace artists and promote art access for underserved youth while purchasing one-of-a-kind gifts for Mother’s Day, graduation, the wedding season, and more.
The fundraiser, which was underwritten by Progress Energy, kicked off with Shop&Hops, a beer tasting and art sale sponsored by Aviator Brewing Company and Dickey’s BBQ. “We love our spring fundraiser because we are able to reach a young, art-loving crowd while raising awareness for our community outreach and scholarship programs,” said Artspace Executive Director Mary Poole. “We are also able to showcase some amazing local artists, who are so supportive of Artspace and our youth programs.”
The weekend event continued with a Friday lunchtime shopping event sponsored by Café Caturra, Troy Mezze Lounge, and Vic’s Italian Restaurant, then culminated on Saturday with a final chance to purchase artwork. Generous Artspace supporter Benelux Café provided coffee for the Saturday event. “All in all, this was a great event for Artspace, and we could not have done it without our wonderful sponsors, studio artists, and local artists,” Poole emphasized.
The Artspace Summer Arts Program Scholarship Fund provides 50 need-based, full-day scholarships to at-risk youth so they may participate in the unique and inspiring classes the Summer Arts Program offers. The Artspace Outreach Program partners with local social service agencies to guide students through the conceptualization and creation of a large-scale, collaborative art project.
