Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, was honored to be the first to exhibit Jason Hackenwerth: The Tempest. In honor of this memorable exhibition, Redux will host an exhibition closing celebration with live music, light h’ordeavors, and a silent art auction. All proceeds from this event will support Redux education and outreach programs for youth and families.

For the Tempest, Jason Hackenwerth is exhibiting experimental sculptures cut from plywood and are designed to fit together with a tongue-in-groove construction technique allowing the forms to be assembled like a giant puzzle and be held together by gravity. The sculptures are also grounded by large scale deep blue drawings using the linear elements of their design. Inspired by the iconic sculptures and mobiles of past masters especially Alexander Calder, each of Hackenwerth’s works are an expression in the evolving language of sculpture.
Jason Hackenwerth works have been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions including: the Museum of Arts and Design (New York, NY); Jang Heung Art Museum (Seoul, Korea); Sçope London (London, UK); Robert Steele Gallery, Project Room (NYC ); Cecile R. Hunt Gallery (St. Louis, MO) and the Riverside Art Museum (Riverside, CA). Hackenwerth has received many awards for his work, including a Scope Roving Artist Grant for the Venice Biennale and a New York Work Space Residency, (Art Link/SCAD). His work has also been reviewed in the New York Times and Art in America.
Redux Contemporary Art Center is a nonprofit organization committed to the fostering of creativity and the cultivation of contemporary art through diverse exhibitions, subsidized studio space for artists, expansive educational programming, and a multidisciplinary approach to the dialogue between artists and audience. Housed within two warehouses of combined 12,000 square foot space are two galleries, twenty-two private artist studios, print shop, darkroom, woodshop, classroom, and film-screening area. Redux is committed to showing artwork by national and international artists, supporting local artists, and enriching the Charleston community by offering adult and youth education programs.
