The Final Tryon Gallery Trot of 2011 Takes Place in Tryon, NC – Oct. 8, 2011

The final “Tryon Gallery Trot” for this year arrives on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, from 5-8pm, in downtown Tryon, NC. With two new establishments officially joining the Trot, this last downtown art-filled evening for 2011 is not to be missed. The Trot began in June and its crowds have consistently grown since. Come out and be a part of this growing event.

Bravo MarketPlace joins the Trot this month with an exciting group of  local artists on display; Diana Gurri, Bob Neely, Linda Hudgins, Mara & Ford Smith, and Jim Shackelford. Find the diverse work of these artists at Bravo MarketPlace and Thompson Landscaping at 83 Palmer Street (behind Stott’s Ford).

The Ferullo Fine Art Studio will be holding its Grand Opening reception. Pat Cole-Ferullo and Dom Ferullo welcome you to stop in and enjoy a tasty snack, beverage, and peruse the new gallery space located at 140 Pacolet St. They are now showing watercolors and acrylics by Pat, and mixed media and wood sculpture by Dom.

The Upstairs Artspace hosts an opening reception for its first-ever portrait exhibit entitled, Lines and Lives of the Face. An added attraction is a small exhibit, This is not a Portrait, consisting of 25 drawings of the infamous Osama bin Laden made by local artists from a template by James Esber. The Upstairs reception, which is from 5 to 8pm, is preceded by the “Walk & Talk” tour of the art at 4pm.

Green River Gallery will feature the work of Charles Harpt during their late hours. Kiveo proudly displays their continuously changing selection of artwork from local talented artists.

Tryon Painters & Sculptors will have a new Member’s show that features not only their member’s pictures and sculptures but the Claydie’s sculptures as well. Refreshments will be served. Vines & Stuff is featuring new work by local woodturner Jim Mellberg, and a stunning collection of local pottery from Tiffany Gipson and Little Mountain Pottery, including their new redware pieces. Richard Baker proudly accomplishes a goal showing his commitment to the Tryon Community with four new paintings of the Tryon Toymaker Toys. Come see these brilliant and nostalgic pieces honoring Tryon’s rich history. Treats and apple cider will be served during the Trot in his studio.

Kathleen’s Gallery will highlight new work by gallery artists and introduce Douglas Chamberlain’s assemblages; combined architectural salvage with odds and ends of other recycled materials to create wall hangings full of texture and color. Textile artists Bobbie Thomas and Kathie Seatters, jewelry artists Monica Jones and Leah Weitzel, and recycled plastic artist David Edgar all display new work for the Trot.

Skyuka Fine Art presents, European Treasures; a selection of artwork that represent years of remarkable finds from local art dealer (via England) John Selleck. Selleck’s surprisingly affordable pieces generally date from the late 19th century to approximately 1930. This exhibit will be an extremely special one as many of these paintings have never been exhibited in the USA, let alone Tryon! The opening reception will be during the Trot, where Sellick will be on hand to discuss the work.

Having an arts-centered town that hosts events like the Trot really brings home our “Nearly Perfect-Always Tryon” motto. Come on out and enjoy the evening, see some old friends, make some new ones, and support the arts!

Tryon, NC, Offers Tryon Gallery Trot on June 4, 2011

The streets of downtown Tryon, NC, will come alive once again at the second Tryon Gallery Trot on Saturday, June 4, 2011, from 5-8pm. This month there will be 8 participating galleries, shops and businesses featuring artwork and refreshments.

The Upstairs Artspace will be opening a new show, Flood and The Pump: Galleries With Attitude. This exhibit presents 15 artists from the Flood Fine Arts Center, an Asheville, NC, institution that is well known for showcasing exciting, thought-provoking art. In addition, 20 artists with working studios at the Flood will be offering examples of their work.

Tryon Painters and Sculptors, located in Gallery One in the mid-level of the Tryon Fine Arts Center on Melrose Ave. is showing the work of Richard Baker. Baker’s oil paintings depict the architecture and landscapes of this area.

Kiveo, a Trade Street internet business is opening its’ spacious offices to display contemporary and traditional paintings from Ralph Berger, Robert Deterly, Alan McCarter, Jocelyn Davis, Richard Baker, and Catherine Gurri.

Kathleen’s Gallery will be featuring the “Small Wonders” of photographer Elaine Pearsons. Her new work is enhanced by a glaze of colorful glitter. Asheville poet and photographer, Tracey Schmidt will show giclee prints from her new book of poetry.

Vines and Stuff in the Shops of Tryon will be open late showcasing their wide variety of gifts for all ages including hand made pottery.

Just across the street Skyuka Fine Art will be opening, Landscapes of the Carolinas, dedicated to the art of the landscape. Much of the work will be of the Tryon area, its’ surrounding mountains as well as low country, marsh and coastal landscapes in a variety of techniques and mediums. New artists to the gallery will be represented in this exhibit as well as historical ones.

Next door to Skyuka, Green River Gallery joins in the trot offering a wide selection of paintings and prints from their collection.

Just down from Green River Gallery, Richard Baker Studio will host late hours with a special touch; Baker will be demonstrating how he captures the beautiful properties of water that he is so well known for. Baker has also taken on some new local artists who will have their work on display and be on site as well.

This, the second Tryon Gallery Trot, is sponsored by the Tryon Downtown Development Association. Look for maps in participating galleries and shops to guide you along on your own “Trot”.
