Falling Rivers Gallery in Albemarle, NC, Presents 5th Annual Pottery Show – Sept. 28 and 29, 2012

September 13, 2012

Falling Rivers Gallery and the Stanly Arts Guild in Albemarle, NC, is honored to host “Celebrating our Pottery Harvest”, the 5th Annual Pottery Show at the Gallery, located at 119 West Main Street in Albemarle. The Show will be held on September 28th and 29th, Friday and Saturday. The hours are 10am-5pm on both days with an open reception held until 7pm on Friday evening. Potters from Stanly and surrounding counties will showcase their work and offer them for sale. For the past four years, the show has attracted pottery enthusiasts from across the state.  This year’s event includes returning potters as well as first-time participants.

“We are expecting to have a great selection of new work by our current members and visiting potters at this year’s show. As always, we want to expose the public to innovative new artists as well as bring new collections from their favorite local potters” states Nancy Lipe, Gallery Director of Falling Rivers Gallery. Unlike traditional pottery shows, this event is able to utilize the resources of the Gallery for checkout and wrapping.

“This show is fun for the potters as they can spend their time interacting with customers and each other, and also for the customers as they have a single checkout rather than having to pay each potter individually for purchases.  It creates a very laid-back atmosphere in this very beautiful Gallery setting” adds Bobbie Listerman from River Road Clayworks.

This year the Gallery will host pottery from eight area potteries including three potteries participating for the first time.

The Falling Rivers Gallery is the cooperative sales venue of the Stanly Arts Guild and is supported in part by the Albemarle Downtown Improvement LLC and the Stanly County Arts Council, and receives support from the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Cultural Resources, and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes a great nation deserves great art.

Falling Rivers Gallery in Albemarle, NC, Offers “Art of the Vine” Events on 3rd Thursdays of the Month

June 7, 2012

On May 17, 2012, the Falling Rivers Gallery in Albemarle, NC, hosted its first “Art of the Vine” event for those young adults (or the young at heart), looking for a fun activity to start their weekend. On the third Thursday evening each month the Gallery will open its doors for a chance to kick back with the beverage of your choice, pick up a paint brush and let your inner artist out to play!

Finished paintings of first Art of the Vine

Titled “Art of the Vine”, it is intended to be art for fun and entertainment, rather than a traditional workshop where you are learning a specific technique or medium. Hosted by local abstract artist, Tatyana Buck, participants painted a 16″ x 20″ canvas painting during this 2 hour event while enjoying music, laughter and their own beverages. “We wanted to create a fun activity for adults, downtown, after work” says Gallery Director, Nancy Lipe. “When Tatyana mentioned she was involved in a similar activity in Charlotte, we decided that it would be a fun event to bring to Albemarle.”

The Gallery hosted its first Art of the Vine on May 17 to rave reviews with 8 participants who decided to create their own original works. The next Art of the Vine is scheduled for June 21.

Tatyana Buck Thurston brought her vibrant style of painting and youthful energy to the Falling Rivers Gallery in January of 2012. An artist with international roots, Tatyana was raised in Belgium, graduated from Davidson College and occasionally teaches Spanish at Gray Stone Day School. A collection of her art can be seen on her website at (www.eclectiqua.com).

Falling Rivers Gallery is open late every Thursday until 6:30pm but will stay open until 7:30pm on “Art of the Vine” evenings. “Art of the Vine” will run from 5:30-7:30pm on June 21st, and on third Thursdays thereafter with a variety of hosts, paintings or activities each time. The cost is $35 per participant and all art supplies are provided.  Pre-registration and prepayment is required to ensure adequate room and supplies to accommodate all participants.

Falling Rivers Gallery is a cooperative extension and home of the Stanly Arts Guild. The Stanly Arts Guild is a non-profit committed to support, educate and promote the visual arts in Stanly County and the surrounding region. It is supported in part by the NC Arts Council a division of the department of Cultural Resources.
