Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Calls for Artists to Create or Decorate Chairs for “Chair-ity” Auction

The Transylvania Community Arts Council has placed a call for artists to help with their “Chair-ity” Auction that will be held on Sunday, August 3 at the Brevard Lumberyard and The Haen Gallery in Brevard, NC. Tickets to the event will go on sale in July.

Tammy Hopkins with the TC Arts Council said, “We are looking for artists to create chairs or find old chairs and refurbish them artistically. These chairs do not have to functionable furniture – they can simply be pieces of artwork.” The TC Arts Council has chairs in the basement that can be picked up and decorated, painted, carved, collaged etc . . . or artists can go out and find their own chair or unique piece of furniture.

The TC Arts Council would like to get the chairs back by June 20, 2014, for PR purposes. As the artists participating you can get a ticket to the event $50 value OR you can get 20% of the sale of your donated chair. If chairs are NOT your thing, we can use art items and other fun treasures for the silent auction.

Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Calls for Applications for the 42nd Annual Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase – Deadline May 30, 2014

Artists who wish to exhibit in downtown Brevard, NC’s “42nd annual Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase on Main Street” for July 4th may apply for a booth space through the Transylvania Community Arts Council until May 30, 2014. Applications and more information are available by calling the TC Arts Council at 828/884-2787 or by e-mailing to (tcarts@comporium.net). All artist vendors must have their own tent, tables and chairs.

Each year, the Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase features up to 45+ regional artists and crafters who are juried into the show based on their excellent original art and craftwork. The event will take place from 9am to 5pm, in conjunction with Heart of Brevard’s Fourth of July Celebration and Transylvania Region AACA Classic Car Show in downtown Brevard. These three-festivals-in-one attract up to 12,000 people annually with music, arts, crafts, food, children’s activities and more. This year the event will take place on Friday, July 4th. Non-artist vendors must contact the Heart of Brevard at 828/884-3278.

Application fee for the Showcase is $25. Booth fee is $100. Applicants will be notified of jury decisions and receive important event information by June 4.

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has announced its exhibits for the 2014 season and has placed an open call for artists to enter. Tammy Hopkins, executive director at the TC Arts Council said, “We have a beautiful gallery located inside an old church that lends itself to interesting exhibits. Each month we have a different theme or a different arts organization on display. In 2013 we hosted 456 artists of all ages in our gallery.”

Call for Artists 2014:

Theme: “Interwoven” – This is an open art exhibit at the TC Arts Council from Feb. 7- 28, for fiber and basket artists. Deadline to enter Feb. 4.

Theme: “Exploring The Great Outdoors”  – all mediums accepted. This exhibit will be on display at the TC Arts Council from Mar. 7 – 28. Entry deadline is Mar. 4.

Theme: “Walk on The Wild Side” – animals in art – This is an open art exhibit at the TC Arts Council from May 9 – 30. Deadline to enter is May 6.

Theme: “Potters of WNC” – This is an open exhibit for Potters from WNC at the TC Arts Council from June 6 – 20. Deadline to enter is June 3.

Theme: “ArtMart” – end of year clearance sale. Artists its time to clean out your studio and put the artwork on sale so you begin the New Year fresh! This event will run Nov. 14 & 15.  Deadline to enter ArtMart is November 10.

TC Arts Call for Artwork for 2014 Fundraisers:

The TC Arts Council will also be hosting a couple of fundraisers throughout the 2014 season and is looking for help from area artists. TC Arts has bowling pins available for artists to take and create new artwork with. These new “bowling pin” pieces of artwork would then be auctioned off at the March bowling fundraiser. A percentage of the auctioned item would be given back to the artist.

The “Chair–ity” event will be held in August and TC Arts is asking artist to help them decorate or create unique chairs for the “Chair-ity” Auction. If you are interested the TC Arts Council can provide a chair. A percentage of the auctioned item would be given back to the artist. Call for Artists for Artists to Participate in Transylvania Community Arts Council’s November & December Art Shows in Brevard, NC

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, is looking for artists and crafters to sell work at its eleventh annual ArtMart fundraiser. Contributing artists are able to sell work that tends to clutter studios – pieces that may not have sold in the past or did not turn out exactly as expected. So set aside a box in your studio and start collecting that clutter now! Artists receive 60% of sales and 40% goes to TC Arts Council to support its youth art programs.

The ArtMart public sale will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9am-4pm. A casual preview party will precede it on Friday, Nov. 15, from 6-8pm. The preview party is attended by members, friends, sponsors and donors of the TC Arts Council. Artists will be able to set up their artwork at the TC Arts Council on Nov. 14 and 15 from 9:30am-5pm. TC Arts’ volunteers will staff the gallery and handle sales on Friday and Saturday.

The TC Arts Council will then open their Holiday Show and Sale entitled Santa’s Palette which will run from Nov. 22 – Dec. 20. This is an open show for Transylvania County and WNC artists. Artist may drop off their artwork Nov.18 – 20. Applications and additional information are available at the Transylvania Community Arts Council located at 349 S. Duck Race on July 4th in Brevard, NC, to Benefit TC Arts Council Kreative Kids

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has announced its summer fundraiser – a Duck Race for Kreative Kids Art Programs. The Duck Race will be held on July 4, 2013, at Brevard College near the gymnasium on Kings Creek. Ducks will launch at 5pm.

Adopt a Duck for the Duck Race for Kreative Kids for just $5 and join hundreds of rubber feathered friends flocking together to help provide creative opportunities for youth in our community. And you can win prizes! With every duck you adopt, you’ll help TC Arts Council provide scholarships to art camps, pottery camps and provide more Arts In Schools Programming for K-12 in Transylvania County.

Don’t wait! Fill out your adoption paper today and adopt your winning duck for $5. Then come to the race on July 4th at 5pm at King’s Creek near the Brevard College Gymnasium and cheer on your duck to victory! You do not have to be present to win. Winners will be contaced by the TC Arts Council.

Each duck cost a donation of $5 each or $25 for six ducks and $100 for 25 ducks. The winning ducks will compete for prizes from local merchants including $250 cash.  Prizes include: 1st Place – $250 and a gift card from Kiwi Gelato; 2nd Place – $50; 3rd Place – gift card from Number 7 Fine Arts & Crafts Cooperative; 4th Place – a fresh baked pie from Blue Ridge Bakery; 5th Place -  gift card from The-oph.ilus; 6th Place – a gift card from D. D. Bullwinkel’s and Rocky’s Grill; 7th Place – fun ducks from O.P. Taylor’s Toy Store; 8th Place – gift card to LIL-BO-TIQUE; 9th Place – gift card to Kiwi Gelato; and the Last Place Lucky Duck wins $20.

Rules of the Duck Race:  Ducks will be launched July 4th at 5pm on Kings Creek at Brevard College Campus. The race course will be set by the Presenter –TC Arts Council.
All ducks will be provided by the Presenter and will remain the property of the Presenter.

Once the ducks are launched the public may not interfere with the ducks in the water. The TC Arts duck patrol will man the waterways to free stuck ducks. A number will be attached to each duck corresponding to a number on the entry ticket. The person whose name appears on the entry ticket, corresponding to the first ducks in order of finish, will be awarded prizes.

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has announced its exhibits for the 2013 season and has placed a call for artists to enter. Each month we have a different theme or a different arts organization on display. In 2012 we hosted 525 artists of all ages in our gallery.”

Call for Artists 2013:

Theme: Material World – a look at our “material world” or things made from material (fiber arts). The exhibit will be on display at the TC Arts Council from February 8 – March 1. Entry deadline is February 5, 2013.

Theme: The Great Outdoors  – all mediums accepted. This exhibit will be on display at the TC Arts Council from March 8 – April 3. Entry deadline is March 6, 2013.

Theme: TC Arts Collaborative Exhibit – 2 or more artists working together. This exhibit will be on display at the TC Arts Council from September 20 – October 11. Entry deadline is September 18, 2013.

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, will host its Holiday fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, with a Holiday Tour of Artists’ Studios. Artists participating include: Ann DerGara, Aaron Alderman, George Peterson, Shellie Lewis-Dambax, Suzanne Schmitt, Christine Kosiba, Sharyn Fogel, Brevard College Art Department – Spiers Gallery and art studios, and Brevard Lumber Arts District with Sam Owen, Mark Connelley, Jason Emory, Hayden Wilson, Chris Strassner and more.

Tickets are on sale at TC Arts Council for the Holiday Tour of Artists’ Studios thru the day of the event. Tickets cost $20. Proceeds will benefit the TC Arts Council youth programs including Arts In Schools, Summer Art Camps and Kids Art Day. The TC Arts Council is located at 349 S. Caldwell Street in Brevard.

On Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, the night before the Holiday Tour of Artists’ Studios, TC Arts Council will host its annual Holiday Kick-Off Party at the home of Hugh Tucker and Paul Thomas. Enjoy this beautiful private home filled with artwork and decorated for the Holidays. Your ticket includes wine, heavy hors d’oeuvres by Courtyard Cafe, musical entertainment by George Andrews and an art auction. Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Offers Lecture on Upcoming Exhibit – Aug. 4, 2012

A digital presentation will be offered at Transylvania Community Arts Council by Bill Lea and Hal Looney – “The Living Wild” on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012.

Nationally acclaimed wildlife photographer Bill Lea, and Bluewood Photography owner and noted wildlife photographer, Hal Looney, kick-off Transylvania Community Arts Center’s exhibition, Wild World of Animals Art, on view from  Aug. 8 – 31, 2012, with a lecture and digital presentation, “The Living Wild”, on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, beginning with a reception at 7pm, followed at 8pm by the presentation.

The event is free and open to the public. The digital presentation will feature images of bears and wildlife of the Smoky Mountains and images from Florida’s Everglades by Bill Lea, and conclude with Looney’s presentation of birds and wildlife from wild and remote places around the world.

Bluewood Photography in Brevard is the corporate sponsor of TCARTS “Wide World of Animals Art”.
