Flat Rock, NC, Tailgate Market To Hold Annual Holiday Market – Dec. 14, 2013

The  Flat Rock’s Tailgate Market will be holding its Annual Holiday Market on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, from 2 to 5pm, in the courtyard in front of Hubba Hubba Smokehouse in downtown Flat Rock, NC, along Highway 225 South. This seasonal event will be free and open to the public.

Come warm your hands by the fire and enjoy some seasonal live music performed by the Jazzberries and a taste of wine from Burnt Shirt Winery while shopping at this festive event featuring many of the usual vendors of the Flat Rock Tailgate Market with a few new surprise additions. Shop for a wide variety of baked goods, jams, jellies, honey, winter squashes and pumpkins for Holiday bisque and pies, cheeses, chicken, eggs, lamb and seafood.  Seasonal produce will also be available including broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collards, lettuce and maybe even some tomatoes! And don’t forget your holiday pies from Marvelous Pies.

Christmas trees, cut or balled for replanting, fresh wreaths or seasonal greenery, cranberry garlands and paper whites for holiday blooms will be available for decorating your home this season.

In addition, many vendors will have specialty items such as festive holiday confectioneries, natural herbal product gift baskets and handmade crafts including jewelry, pottery and reproduction prints and cards.

Apple Country Woodcrafters of Hendersonville, NC, Have A New Home

Apple Country Woodcrafters of Hendersonville, NC, a group that formed in 1985 to promote the art and craft of woodworking, now has its own woodworking shop located at 5628 Howard Gap Road in Flat Rock, NC. The new, eight-thousand square foot building, the Dr. Carleton M. Herman Education Center, is named after one of the founding members.

The Woodcrafters fabricate thousands of handmade wooden toys annually which are distributed to disadvantaged children in our community. Additionally, they have built many local community projects.

The Woodcrafters meetings will now be held at the new shop location on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30pm with a social time beginning at 6pm. Refreshments are served.

Our next meeting is Jan. 28, 2013. Anyone interested in woodworking is invited to attend. All skill levels are welcome.

Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, is Closing

Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, will be closing after 16 years in business on Dec. 29, 2012. The owners, potter David Voorhees and jeweler Molly Sharp Voorhees are retiring from the retail gallery business to pursue their own artwork exclusively in their Zirconia home studios.

The gallery will host a closing celebration party on Dec. 29, 2012, from 4 to 8pm. Many of the gallery artists will be present. Food, beverages, music and door prizes will be offered. The closing party is a celebration of, and a thank you for the relationships developed, artists to customers and gallery family to the community. The public is invited to this free event.

Hand in Hand Gallery is located at 2720 Greenville Highway /NC 225, along Flat Rock’s Little Rainbow Row. Gallery hours are Mon. through Sat., 10am-5pm, and Sun. 1-5pm. Open Christmas Eve until 3pm, closed on Christmas Day.

Arts Council of Henderson County Announces Call for Entries for Annual Open Exhibition – Deadline Aug. 3, 2012

The Arts Council of Henderson County announces a call for entries for the ninth annual Bring Us Your Best, an all media visual art exhibition. The exhibit will be opening with an awards reception on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 5-7pm. Visual artists from across the spectrum, from part-time hobbyists to full-time professionals, are called to enter their work in Bring Us Your Best IX.

This popular show has grown considerably since its inception in 2004, now drawing artists from throughout western North Carolina, upper South Carolina, and eastern Tennessee. The exhibition will again be hosted by Blue Ridge Community College, 180 West Campus Drive in Flat Rock, NC, in the Conference Hall of the Technology Education & Development Center. The show will run from Wednesday, Aug. 15 through Saturday, Sept. 1, 10am-4pm weekdays, 1pm-3pm on Saturdays.

A juried and judged competition, Bring Us Your Best IX will offer greater prize monies than ever before. First, second, and third place cash prizes will be awarded in each of four categories:  two-dimensional work, three-dimensional work, fine craft, and photography. A “One Planet, One World” prize will be selected by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville and awarded to the artwork that best exemplifies respect for our interdependent web of all existence of which we are all a part. In addition a “People’s Choice” award will be selected from the votes of gallery visitors. This award will be announced on the final day of the show, and will be presented in the form of a $250 gift certificate by, and for, The Starving Artist Fine Art Supplies and Custom Framing.

Deliver entries to BRCC Conference Hall within TEDC Building, Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3, 10am – 4pm each day.

The Arts Council of Henderson County in Hendersonville, NC, announces a call for artists for the eighth annual Bring Us Your Best exhibition. Bring Us Your Best VIII will be hosted by Blue Ridge Community College, 180 West Campus Drive in Flat Rock, NC, and will be presented in the Technology Education & Development Center. Dates are Aug. 19 – Sept. 3, 2011.

Total awards have increased to $1,750 and include: Best of Show ($500), four 1st Place ($150 each), and four 2nd Place ($75 each). New this year is the People’s Choice Award ($350), which will be determined by the votes of gallery visitors.

Bring Us Your Best is a juried and judged show that is popular with professional artists, hobbyists and student artists from throughout the Southern Highlands region.  The show is open to original works of art in any media.  The fee for each submission is $25. Arts Council members can submit their first entry for free and subsequent entries at $15 each. Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, Raku Pottery Trunk Show with Barry Bernstein – Mar. 23 – 26, 2011

A special 4-day trunk show will be held for noted raku artist Barry Bernstein at Hand in Hand Gallery form Wednesday, Mar. 23 through Saturday, Mar. 26, 2011. A wide variety of raku fired vessels will be available to view and purchase.

A special evening Meet-the-Artist Reception will take place on Friday, Mar. 25, 2011, from 5 to 7pm. Wine, beverages and light refreshments will be served. Bernstein hails from Marquette, MI, but exhibits his award winning raku pottery and sculptural vessels nationally in galleries and at fine craft and art shows.

Hand in Hand Gallery is located at 2720 Greenville Hwy., in Flat Rock. Gallery hours are 10am to 5pm daily, Wednesday through Saturdays.
