Skyuka Fine Art in Tryon, NC, will host it’s first “Walk and Talk” with two of Tryon’s own most knowledgeable art historians; Michael McCue and Nowell Guffey, on Apr. 14, 2012, at 2pm. McCue is well known for his entertaining and informative lectures on the many subjects revolving around Tryon’s rich artistic heritage. He has also written two books on the subject; Tryon Artists 1892-1942, and Paris and Tryon. Guffey (of Foothills Fine Art) is an avid collector and dealer of historic Tryon artist’s work. This will be an informal gathering beginning at 2pm and ending at approximately 4pm.
The works on display and what will be discussed focuses on the history of Tryon and the Tryon Colony Artist’s work produced in the first half of the 20th Century. During that time this area was a magnet for artists and intellectuals. This exhibit honors approximately 20 of these artists, all outstanding representatives of this prestigious group. They include Elizabeth Paxton Oliver, Ernest Harrison Barnes, Will Henry Stevens, Robert P. Lawrence, Amelia Watson, Homer Ellertson, John Sylvan Brown, Augustus Vincent Tack and Lawrence Mazzanovich. These are all listed artists with a proven track record in sales and auctions. Many of them are in major collections and museums. Most of the work in this exhibit is for sale.
