If art feeds the soul, then the South Carolina State Museum’s Third Thursday Lunch Discussions will satisfy many a hungry soul this summer. The discussions begin at noon on the third Thursday each month through August, 2012, and are held in conjunction with the museum’s new exhibit Abstract Art in South Carolina: 1949-2012. Each talk will feature artists whose work can be seen in the show.
“The talks will provide insight into the artists’ work, and the opportunity to interact with them,” said Paul Matheny, curator of art. “Participants may bring their own lunches or purchase lunch from the museum’s Crescent Café.”
On May 17, James Busby of Rock Hill, SC, will discuss his work with media such as gesso, graphite and oil, as used in his 2012 work “Trace.” The artwork can be seen in the museum’s exhibit.
Other artists scheduled to appear in upcoming programs include Katie Walker (June 21), Paul Yanko and Enid Williams (July 19), and Laura Spong and Mike Williams (Aug. 16).
There is no additional charge for these events for museum members. They are included in the price of admission for the general public.
