SC Sculptor, Alex Palkovich, Wins the 80th Annual National Sculpture Society Exhibition’s People’s Choice Award


Alex Palkovich, the single representative from SC in the National Sculpture Society (NSS) which represents the top 200 sculptors of the nation, won the NSS People’s choice award for his work “On the Way to the Market”. At the ceremony held at Brookgreen Gardens, in Pawleys Island, SC, the judges congratulated Palkovich on winning on a very competitive year in which every sculpture in the exhibition received at least one nomination for the award.


Palkovich lives in Florence, SC. He was born in Russia, and emigrated to Israel and to the UK before moving to USA in 1998. He was the Global Manager of MRI operations at GE, and before that the Managing Director of Elscint Chriomagnetics in the UK. Six years ago Palkovich retired and chose to remain in Florence, and pursue his first love, sculpting. Since that time he has been involved in helping revitalize downtown Florence, and provided commissioned pieces for Florence Veterans’ Park. Performing Arts Center, Library, NC University, Lake City Village Green, the Francis Marion Memorial at historical landmark Venter’s Landing in Johnsonville, SC, and many more.

An exhibit featuring several of Palkovich’s recent works, including the award-winning piece “On the Way to the Market”, is showing at Francis Marion University’s Hyman Fine Arts Center until Nov. 7, 2013. Palkovich is currently refurbishing a new studio space in downtown Florence that will also feature a small gallery space. Until then his studio is located at the back of the Art Trail Gallery, on the corner of Evens and Irby in Florence.
