The City of Lancaster, SC, has been chosen to receive a 2015 Historic Preservation Stewardship Award for its dedication to the preservation of the Cultural Arts Center at The Olde Lancaster Presbyterian Church. Lt. Governor Henry McMaster will present the award for The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation at the State House in Columbia, SC, on June 5, 2015.

Each year, thousands of South Carolinians work to preserve the state’s legacy that is reflected in our historic buildings, structures, and sites. Since 1995 the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, and the Office of the Governor have recognized  exceptional accomplishments in the preservation, rehabilitation, and interpretation of architectural and cultural heritage with a series of statewide awards.

These efforts demonstrate outstanding commitment to preserving South Carolina’s history; therefore the nonprofit membership based Palmetto Trust, with both the S.C. Department of Archives and History and the Governor’s Office, join together in recognizing exemplary work in historic preservation in South Carolina.

The Cultural Arts Center at the Olde Lancaster Presbyterian Church is an ongoing preservation and restoration project of the Lancaster County Society for Historical Preservation. The building was built in 1862 and was reopened in 2011 as a center for cultural events.
