Council for the Arts Jacksonville/Onslow in Jacksonville, NC, Calls for Entries for Its “Fall Juried Show” – Deadline is Sept. 30, 2015

council-for-the-arts-jacksonville_onslow-new-logoThe Council for the Arts Jacksonville/Onslow in Jacksonville, NC, announces a “Fall Juried Show” for the month of October and simultaneously a show for emerging artists.  The premier “Fall Juried Show” presents fine craft, painting and sculpture, and represents many of our local top artists. At the same time, we will display in our secondary gallery the work of amateurs or emerging artists.

Artists can submit up to three pieces of their original work on Sept. 29 & 30, 2015. For the “Fall Juried Show” the $30 application fee can be paid by cash, check or credit card.
Work will be on display through the end of October.  All work must be original and made by the artist.

Sarah Merrit, Executive Director Wayne County Arts Council, and an artist, will serve as the judge for the “Fall Juried Show”. Monetary awards will be presented based on the decision of the judge.

Emerging artists are provided the opportunity to show their work and not monetary awards. The “juried process” is a necessary career step if an artist wants to be considered as a serious artist. To help build and develop their artistic resumé artists will enter juried art competitions. Acceptance into a show such as this and having their work displayed provides an endorsement of the artist’s skill and artistic talents.

These events will showcase fresh, innovative work in most media. Applications from new and emerging artists are encouraged.

It is through juried art competitions and juried art shows that an artist’s career and professional development will progress. By successfully participating, the artist will then be taken more seriously by art galleries, art buyers and art reps. It is a progression and a process that takes time for an artist to learn and to adapt to in order to succeed.
