Art League of Henderson County in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Maxine Tatreau for Monthly Meeting – Apr. 10, 2016

The Art League of Henderson County is looking forward to a presentation on freeform watercolor by member Maxine Tatreau at 2pm, on Sunday, Apr. 10, 2016 at Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC. The monthly meeting  will be a treat for the viewers as the outcome is always a surprise, according to Tatreau.

“When I start, I don’t know what it’s going to be,” says Tatreau. It’s this playful and experimental approach to the medium that has made her works frequent winners in shows that she has entered.

Using a wide variety of materials, Tatreau lays them out in an interesting arrangement on thick paper. Just about anything that will make a resist, such as thick gauze, window screen, burlap, torn paper, lace medallions, and Punchinella, the waste material left over from making sequins is fair game for use. Then, the creative part comes in as various colors and thicknesses of watercolors are sprayed onto the paper over the resist materials. Depending on the effect that she is trying to achieve, the paper might be lifted on a corner to get the paint to bleed down one side.

Trudeau’s husband made her a large box to allow the drippings to stay sort of contained, and fortunately, the Art League has an overhead viewing mirror to watch the fun as the magic unfolds on the paper. The resist materials keep the paint from coloring the paper underneath, or sometimes it partially seeps underneath. “That’s part of the mystery of the medium “ says Trudeau, and keeps her constantly experimenting with new materials.

The Art League of Henderson County, NC, is open to all who are interested in fine art. The organization meets monthly on the second Sunday of each month (3rd Sunday in May), at Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC. (There is ample on-site parking which is handicapped accessible.) The social time begins at 1:30pm, with a short business meeting beginning at 2pm.  An art related presentation then follows until 4pm. Guests are welcome.
