Award-winning portrait artist, Suzy Hart, will demonstrate a pastel portrait painted from a life sitting during the 2pm, July 10, 2016, meeting of the Art League of Henderson County at Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway in Hendersonville, NC. From tips on setting proportions to subtle details and emotional expression, the artist describes each step as she paints. She will talk about observation and specific colors in her palette that helps her render skin tones in a natural and intuitive way.
Hart received the Butler Institute of American Art Award from the Allied Artists of America 2012 Exhibition at the National Arts Club, as well as several awards from the Portrait Society of America and the Appalachian Pastel Society of which she is a past President.
Hart is also a Life Member of the Art Students’ League of New York. She is an instructor at the Greenville County Museum School of Art, offering classes in figure drawing and pastel portraiture.
When asked about her philosophy of art, Hart said “I believe we are all artists at heart, and can share and learn skills to fulfill our creativity. What I teach is the art of seeing. “
