Upstairs Artspace in Tryon, NC, Extends Deadline to Sign up for ArtTrek 2019 to Aug. 15, 2019

August 7, 2019

The Upstairs Artspace, a contemporary art gallery in Tryon, NC, is extending the registration deadline for artists to participate in its annual ArtTrek Foothills Open Studios event to Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019. The previous deadline was July 31.

“This has been such a hectic summer, we’ve decided to extend the deadline for artists who might want to participate in this year’s studio tour,” Board President John Walters said. “The new deadline to sign-up is Thursday, Aug. 15.”

ArtTrek is an annual open-studios touring event that allows the general public to get an inside look at how and where artists make their creative works. The participating artists have samples of their work in the gallery, and the visiting patrons are encouraged to also visit the artists’ studios throughout the community.

The gallery exhibition will be held Oct. 4-18, and tours will be held for two days, Saturday, Oct. 5, 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, Oct. 6, noon to 5pm. The opening reception and silent auction of participating artists’ works will be Friday, Oct. 4, 5-7:30pm.

There is no cost for patrons to enjoy the exhibit or take the tour. They are encouraged to start their tour at the gallery in downtown Tryon on Saturday, Oct. 5, with coffee and refreshments 9-11am or on Sunday, Oct. 6, 10am to noon. Patrons will be given a map to the artists’ studios, as well as other helpful and insightful information about the artists.

The closing reception and last day of the exhibition will be Friday, Oct. 18, 5-7:30pm, at which time artwork in the silent auction will be awarded to the highest bidders.

“Last year, we had 31 participating artists from Tryon, Columbus, Saluda, Mill Spring, and Landrum,” Walters said. “Everyone had such a great time, seeing the artwork at the gallery and then driving from studio to studio to meet the artists and actually see where the work is done. This is something that art lovers in the region look forward to each year. They make a day of it, visiting this gallery; the artists’ studios; and taking in the fall scenery, eating at our restaurants, and visiting our towns. It is showcase event for Upstairs Artspace, as well as the Foothills community.”

Foothills artists who have studios within easy driving distance of Tryon and who want to participate can get complete details and register at the gallery Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm. Or, visit online at (
