Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, Calls for Entries in Its Annual Small Works Show

September 6, 2011

The Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, is seeking artists for its 4th Annual Small Works Show to be held November 16 – December 31, 2011. The show has grown from sixty-eight western North Carolina artists represented in 2008 to one hundred nineteen artists in 2010.

The show provides a unique opportunity for budding artists to exhibit their work, as well as an opportunity for more seasoned artists to test their boundaries. The show is open to all artists with a permanent address in the Qualla Boundary or one of the following counties: Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin, and Yancey Counties in NC.

All pieces submitted must be exactly 12” or smaller in every dimension, including base, matting, and frame. Each artist is required to submit original work to include a minimum of three pieces and a maximum of five pieces. Each artist entering the show will pay a flat fee of $20.00 for handling and publicity. All work must be for sale, priced at $300 or below, and must have been created in the last two years. All mediums are welcome.

The Haywood County Arts Council’s small works show was launched in 2008 in response to a declining economy, and to demonstrate that original artwork is affordable and fun to purchase for gifts at Christmas time. Most homes and apartments can accommodate smaller works of art—and the show promotes buying local and regional work to help support artists in western North Carolina.

For a Small Works Show application and information on how to submit your artwork, please e-mail Brittany Martin at (info@haywoodarts.org), download an application at (www.haywoodarts.org) or call the Haywood County Arts Council at 828/452-0593.
