Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Announces Winners of “Biennale 2017”

The Art League of Hilton Head awarded fifteen winners, five of which are local, at the opening reception of “Biennale 2017”, the 25th Biennale National Juried Exhibition on Friday evening, May 5, 2017. The exhibit runs through May 31st at Art League of Hilton Head Gallery located inside Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, on Hilton Head Island, SC. Over $7,000 in cash prizes were awarded.

On Saturday, May 6, approximately 22 people returned to Art League Gallery to attend a “Critic’s Coffee” where judge, Susan Mayfield, discussed her selection process, judging criteria and offered commentary on some of the winning artwork.

The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, invites you to enter the “2017 Biennale”, its 25th national juried exhibition, held every other year across multiple media types. This state of the art gallery provides the finest exhibit space with high tourist and community visibility.

The “25th Biennale” judge will be Susan Mayfield. Mayfield is an award-winning artist known for her use of color and light in pastel and oils. Raised in the South Carolina Lowcountry, she earned a Fine Arts degree with honors from the College of Charleston and further studied with prominent artists from around the country. Mayfield has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions, including the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC, the Joyce Robins Gallery in Sante Fe, NM, the Red Piano Gallery on Hilton Head, SC, and the City Art Gallery in Greenville, NC, among many others. All entries will be juried from digital image. Each artist may enter up to three pieces of original artwork created within the last three years and never accepted into an Art League of Hilton Head juried show before. The Art League of Hilton Head, SC’s annual fundraising benefit, Got Art?, promises to make collectors out of art enthusiasts. Each $100 ticket admits two guests into the event and participation in a live drawing that guarantees the ticket holder one original piece of art. Only 100 tickets will be sold. This fun and popular event is sure to be a sell out!

What makes this event special is that ticket holders go home with an original piece of local art created and donated by Art League member artists. Artwork may include paintings, drawings, photography, collage, jewelry, ceramic and sculpture; each valued at $200 or more.

Not knowing when your name will be called adds a certain element of fun and suspense. You never know which pieces will still be available when it’s your turn to choose. It always proves to be a lively night.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 1, 2016, starting at 4pm. Artwork preview and reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres followed by the exciting main event drawing. When your ticket is drawn, choose an original piece of art! Every ticket is a winner.

More than 100 Got Art? artworks will be on view from Sept. 27-30 from 10am-4pm and on October 1 from 10am-1pm at Art League Gallery.

Art League of Hilton Head awarded winners at the opening reception of “Biennale National Juried Exhibition 2015” on Friday evening, May 8, 2015, on Hilton Head Island, SC. The exhibit runs through May 30, at Walter Greer Gallery located at Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

Judge Carrie Burns Brown presents awards totaling more than $7400. On Saturday, May 9, approximately 30 people returned to the Gallery to attend a “Critic’s Coffee” where Brown discussed her selection process, judging criteria and offered commentary on some of the winning artwork.

Since 2000, Art League of Hilton Head has awarded an annual scholarship in the amount of $2000 to a graduating high school senior who is studying or living on Hilton Head Island and attending a local high school. This year the applicants who were interviewed in April were of such high caliber that Art League added two additional $500 scholarships. The scholarship program encourages students to develop their art skills and pursue a career in visual arts.

Congratulations to Carolanne O’Fee, winner of Art League of Hilton Head’s annual $2000 art scholarship. Carolanne stands first in her senior class of 248 at Hilton Head High School where she is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program candidate.  O’Fee’s outstanding artwork is strong, versatile, confident, and displays a quality and ingenuity mature beyond her years.  She has been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in fashion merchandising.

Walls excels in all her IB Visual Arts classes, stands 4th in a class of 248, and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program candidate at Hilton Head High School. Her artwork stands out illustrating a strong, mature, thoughtful, inventive and creative ability.   Walls has been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design where she will major in illustration or advertising.

Her artwork illustrates her reflective qualities that are both delicate and confident, and  clearly shows her creative abilities. Walls has been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in animation.

The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, is proud to award the 2014 Art League of Hilton Head Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to Heidi Stine. Stine is a senior at Hilton Head Island High School where she is an honors student, and has shown exceptional creativity in her art endeavors. She has been accepted into Savannah College of Art and Design where she plans to major in Animation Design.

The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, is calling for entries of the 2012 Fine Art Craft Guild & Holiday Show, to be held at the Walter Greer Gallery, located in the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, on view from Nov. 12 through Dec. 27, 2012.

The application deadline is Oct. 18, 2012.

Applications can be downloaded at this link (http://hhal.org/pages/forms).

Mail Application to:  Art League of Hilton Head, Fine Art Craft Show, PO Box 5367, Hilton Head Island, SC  29938.

Submitted work must be original and of top quality.

Application must include professional, digital images of up to 3 artworks (two views of each 3D piece).

Application must include a $40 (non-refundable) entry and application fee (made payable to Art League of Hilton Head).

Send .tiffs or .jpgs on CDs along with completed application form by October 18th, 2012.
