Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Call for Artists to Participate in the 45th Annual Fine Arts & Crafts Showcase on July 4, 2017

Artists who wish to exhibit in the 45th annual Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase on Main Street in downtown Brevard, NC, for July 4th may apply for a booth space through the Transylvania Community Arts Council until June 2, 2017. Applications and more information are available by calling the TC Arts Council at 828/884-2787 or by e-mailing to (tcarts@comporium.net). All art vendors must have their own tent, tables and chairs.

Each year, the Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase features up to 48 regional artists and crafters who are juried into the show based on their excellent original art and craftwork. The event will take place from 9am to 5pm, in conjunction with Heart of Brevard’s Fourth of July Celebration and Transylvania Region AACA Classic Car Show in downtown Brevard. These three-festivals-in-one attract up to 14,000 people annually with music, arts, crafts, food, children’s activities and more. This year the event will take place on Tuesday, July 4. Non-artist vendors wanting to participate must contact the Heart of Brevard at 828/884-3278.

The application and jury fee is $150. Applicants will be notified of jury decisions and receive important event information by June 5, 2017.

Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Call for Artists to Participate in Art Spark Art Auction 2017 – Deadline July 10, 2017

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has placed a call for artists to create colorful works of art for their annual Art Spark Art Auction which will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017. “This year marks the fourth year of the TC Arts Council’s art auction/fundraiser and of local artist’s supporting the arts. We look for works of art in all mediums including: sculptures, paintings, photography, mosaics, fiber, jewelry, glass, pottery, woodworking, metal . . . you pick the medium, then create and donate to this fabulous cause,” says Mary Waldroff, Board member of TC Arts Council and the Art Spark Chairperson.

Art Spark 2017 will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 6 to 9pm at the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District. Proceeds from this event support all art programs of the TC Arts Council.  All artists who donate a piece for the art auction will have their work on display at the TC Arts Gallery from July 24 thru August 11. Then the work will be moved to the auction site for the Aug. 13 event. Artists have the option to get a percentage of the sale back or a free ticket to the catered event.

The deadline to enter artwork is July 10.

The TC Arts Council is a 501 c-3 non-profit organization that promotes all arts in the community and serves as the film liaison for the area. The TC Arts Council also organizes the Brevard 4th Friday Gallery Walks, presents 12 art exhibits a year with more than 400+ artists featured, and provides Arts In Schools programming at the nine public schools.  The TC Arts Council is located at 349 S. Caldwell Street in Brevard, NC.

Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Calls for Entries for “White Squirrel Photo Contest 2017” – Deadline May 15, 2017

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, and the Heart of Brevard present the “13th Annual White Squirrel Photography Contest”, as part of the White Squirrel Festival Weekend (May 27 – 29).

Photos may be delivered to TC Arts in Brevard from Apr. 5 – May 15, 2017.

1) No more than 2 photos per person can be submitted.
2) Photo(s) must be taken by the entrant.
3) Photo(s) must be mounted or framed for display purposes (no larger than 8”x10’ print; frame no larger than 11”x14”).
4) Photo(s) must have on the back of the photo entrant’s name, contact information, and name/title of the photo.
5) Photos cannot be digitally enhanced to change the actual circumstances of the squirrel(s) when photo was taken.
6) $5 entry fee, per photo
Prizes include: 1st Place – $50, 2nd Place $25, 3rd Place $10 and Honorable Mention Ribbons.

Photos will be on display throughout downtown Brevard businesses during the White Squirrel Festival. Photos may be picked up at the TC Arts Council between June 1 – 16, 2017.

Number 7 Arts Gallery in Brevard, NC, Seeks Glass and Metal Artists

Number 7 Arts, a program of the Transylvania Community Arts Council, located in Brevard, NC, is seeking artists who work in the medium of blown glass and metal sculpture. The gallery, which has been in business for 18 years recently relocated to a larger space which currently showcases 38 cooperative artists.

All metal or glass artists wishing to apply may e-mail Nancy Rosenthal, Jury Chair, at (seldomscene@comporium.net), or stop by the Gallery, to receive an application.  Upon submission, the work will be reviewed by a jury committee and, if approved, will be asked to schedule an in-person interview along with 5 examples of recent work.  In addition, an artist resume’, biography and any other pertinent information will be accepted into the process for consideration.

The Transylvania Community Arts Council located in Brevard, NC, has placed an open call for artists in any medium that fit the following themes: “Folk Art” and “The Other Side”.  Open exhibits are for any artist living in the region that fit that particular theme.

The open exhibit “Folk Art” will run from Feb. 10 – 28, 2017.  Artwork and paperwork should be delivered to the TC Arts Council between Feb. 6 and 7. There is a $5 entry fee per art piece to participate in this exhibit. Artists may enter up to 4 pieces depending on gallery space. The public reception for that exhibit will be held on Friday, Feb. 10 from 5-7pm.

“The Other Side” art exhibit will run from May 5 – 26, 2017.  Artwork and paperwork should be delivered to the TC Arts Council between May 1 and 2. There is a $5 entry fee per art piece to participate in this exhibit. Artists may enter up to 4 pieces depending on gallery space. The public reception for that exhibit will be held on Friday, May 5 from 5-7pm.

Number 7 Arts Gallery in Brevard, NC, on the Move and is Looking for New Artists

Number 7 Arts, a cooperative gallery in downtown Brevard, NC, is moving to a larger space in January 2017. The gallery has been in business for 17 years and is the oldest operating gallery in Brevard. The gallery currently houses 30 artists, and is looking to add artists to begin showing their work in January 2017 in the new location.

The jury is interested primarily in the following mediums: three-dimensional metal sculpture; wood sculpture/carvings; blown glass; fiber/wearable/weavings; jewelry; 2-dimensional mixed media/encaustic. Other mediums will be considered.

To get an application, stop by Number 7 Arts, located at 12 East Main Street, Brevard between 10am-6pm, Monday thru Saturday and noon-4pm on Sunday. You can also send an e-mail to (seldomscene@comporium.net) and request an application. Upon submitting an application, your work will be evaluated by the Number 7 Arts jury committee and, if approved, you will be notified when to appear in person with at least 5 examples of your work.

TC Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Places Open Call for Artists for 2016 Art Season – Various Deadlines

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has announced their open calls for the 2016 Art Season. Artists are invited to enter shows/exhibits and a street festival hosted by the TC Arts Council. The TC Arts Council is a 501 – c 3 non-profit arts organization that promotes all arts in Brevard and Transylvania County and partners with regional art groups to promote WNC as an arts destination.

In March the TC Arts Council will host “Pigments of Your Imagination” an open art exhibit at the TC Arts Council Gallery. They are looking for all mediums that fit the theme. The exhibit will run from Mar. 4 – 31, 2016.

Applications and artwork are due Feb. 29 –Mar. 2, 2016.

In May the TC Arts Council will host “Blast From the Past” an art exhibit featuring past members of the TC Arts Council Board of Directors and committees as well as past members of Number 7 Fine Arts & Crafts Cooperative. The exhibit will run from May 6 – 27.

Applications and artwork are due May 2-4, 2016.

Also in May the TC Arts Council, in partnership with the Heart of Brevard and the White Squirrel Festival, will host the “12th Annual White Squirrel Photo Contest”. Each photographer may enter two photographs featuring Brevard’s White Squirrels. Photo’s must be delivered to the TC Arts Council between Apr. 20 and May 20, 2016. There is a $5 entry fee per photo. Photo’s will be on display in downtown Brevard for the White Squirrel Festival weekend which runs May 27 – 29, 2016.

This year marks the TC Arts Council’s 44th annual Fine Arts & Crafts Showcase in downtown Brevard during the July 4th Street Festival. The TC Arts Council organizes the juried art block for the festival.  10 x 10 booths are available for artist to apply for. Artists must have their own tent, tables, chairs and display equipment. TC Arts is accepting applications now thru June 1 for the festival. Jury selections will be announced June 3, 2016. This juried art block houses 30 – 40 fine art and crafts artists from all over the southeast. Booth fees are $125 with a $25 non-refundable application fee.

In August TC Arts will host its annual fundraiser called ART SPARK 2016.  TC Arts is looking for donated artwork that fits this year’s theme “The Wonderful World of Colors”.  This artwork will be auctioned off at Art Spark 2016 on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Old Bishop Place Farm. All artists who participate will have their donated artwork featured in an exhibit at the TC Arts Council from July 22 – Aug. 12, with a public reception during the July 22nd Gallery Walk.

Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, to Host Art Spark 2015, Art Auction & Garden Party – Aug. 9, 2015

The Transylvania Community Arts Council will host its summer “fun”-raiser ART SPARK – ignite your passion for the arts, on Sunday, August 9 at Old Bishop Place Farm in Cedar Mountain, NC, from 5-8pm. This will be an art auction of “Outdoor Art” and a Garden Party. The auction items of garden and outdoor artwork are designed and crafted by local artisans. There will be a live auction, silent auction and a raffle during the evening. Come experience the creative process as several local artists create paintings during the party to be auctioned as the evening’s Grand Finale. Live painters include: Ann DerGara, Eric DerGara, Ashley Sterling Lowe, and John Davis.
