The Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, is currently accepting portfolios from local and regional artists for possible exhibitions in 2017 at either our Caldwell Arts Council gallery (four 2-month long exhibit opportunities) or at the Art-in-Healing Gallery (three 3-month long exhibit opportunities at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Details for submitting your portfolio are available on our website at (http://www.caldwellarts.com/157-guidelines/).  Portfolios will be accepted through Jan. 30, 2016, and may be delivered or mailed to Caldwell Arts Council Exhibit Selection Committee, 601 College Ave SW (PO Box 1613), Lenoir, NC, 28645 or e-mailed to (office@caldwellarts.com).

The Caldwell Arts Council is a regional arts center that presents monthly and quarterly exhibits, education and collection programs that foster cultural arts in Caldwell County. Our center is housed in an historic 100+ year old home. There are four gallery spaces that have been renovated as professional exhibit spaces. Exhibits range from contemporary to traditional and include 2-D and 3-D exhibitions. The Art-in-Healing Gallery at Caldwell Memorial Hospital can hang up to 20 works of 2-D or 3-D wall artworks. The Caldwell Arts Council exhibits artists from across the country and has a reputation for quality exhibits.

The Caldwell Arts Council’s programs are supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources and by individual and corporate donors.

Spend your day in Caldwell County, NC enjoying all the crafts of the region on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, during the Caldwell Arts Council’s Hues & Brews 2nd Annual Studio Tours and Artist & Craft Beer Celebration.

The Hues & Brews Studio Tours will feature 6 artists at 5 locations opening their homes and studios for visitors 9am-2pm. Pick up your studio tour brochures at the Caldwell Arts Council or see the brochure online at (www.huesandbrews.org) and plan your tour.  The studio tour is FREE of charge.

Continue the fun in downtown Lenoir, NC, where 19 Artists & Crafters and 9 Craft Brewers will gather at the corner of Boundary Street and Harper Avenue for the HUES & BREWS FESTIVAL 2-6pm. Craft Brewers from Caldwell, Catawba, Watauga, and Burke counties will be offering tastings of their craft brews, while artists and crafters display and demo their beautiful work. Artwork will be for sale and live music by 3 different bands fill the air. Food vendors will include JD’s Smokehouse Barbecue and Lenoir’s own Grill & Brew Club grilling wings & frog legs. Children’s art activities will also be provided. The festival is FREE.  Your craft beer tasting ticket, including a collector tasting glass, is $25 in advance or $30 at the gate. Tickets are available at the Caldwell Arts Council, and can be purchased on the website (www.HuesAndBrews.org).

Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, Calls for Grassroots Grants Applications – Deadline Aug. 14, 2015

Grassroots Grant applications are currently being accepted for arts projects taking place in fiscal year 2015-2016. Grassroots Grants, a program of the North Carolina Arts Council, is administered locally by the Caldwell Arts Council.  Last year almost $10,000 was distributed to Caldwell County non-profit groups for arts projects and events.

The Grassroots Grants have been supporting projects and organizations in Caldwell County for more than twenty years. Any non-profit group doing arts programs and projects may apply. Grassroots grants are matching grants that must be matched dollar for dollar and will be disbursed quarterly or biannually. The project must be relevant to the arts at the community level. Credit must be given to the North Carolina Arts Council in any printed information or news releases. A final report is required at the completion of the project.

Applications should include a cover letter, application form, and budget. Applicants are wanted from all areas of Caldwell County in all disciplines of the arts. Applications will be accepted at the Caldwell Arts Council, 601 College Avenue (PO Box 1613) Lenoir NC 28645 through Friday, Aug. 14, 2015.

Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, Has Added New Sculptures to Tucker’s Gallery

The Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, is pleased to announce that new sculptures are being installed during the next few weeks in Tucker’s Gallery, an outdoor sculpture sales gallery in downtown Lenoir.  Tucker’s Gallery is a public/private partnership project between the City of Lenoir and the Caldwell Arts Council. The “Gallery” is located in planters throughout the downtown area.

Sculptures remain on display for one year from date of installation or until sold.

Tucker’s Gallery was started with a Grassroots Arts Grant from the State of North Carolina. Caldwell County is known for its signature sculpture collection of 80 pieces of original sculpture that are on display throughout the county. People travel to our community to see this unique offering.  While the permanent collection is installed county-wide, Tucker’s Gallery allows the resident and the visitor to see a concentrated number of sculptures within a small geographic area, and unlike the permanent collection, allows for purchases of artwork.
