Nester’s quilt, “Solitude” was chosen along with 182 others to be displayed in the AQS Contest. First, Second and Third place prizes in seven categories will be awarded, along with seven overall awards including Best of Show. Winners will be announced at the show and posted on the AQS website, (www.AQSshows.com). Nester has the opportunity to win the $10,000 Best of Show award as well as numerous other awards including $3,500 Best Wall, Traditional, Innovative, Modern and Computer-Aided Quilt. The AQS show is expected to draw more than 15,000 people to the Charlotte Convention Center.

“This is great being in a show of this quality so close to home.  I hope that it will inspire more of our local quilters to enter shows and become involved with AQS.  The Quilters of Kershaw County is a wonderful venue for inspiration and learning the different aspects of quilting from the members who love to share their knowledge,” said Nester.

Quilts were entered in this international contest from 37 US states and seven other countries. The American Quilter’s Society hosts seven annual shows throughout the United States each year.

The society was formed in February of 2002, when Nancy Smith organized a group of quilters in Kershaw and surrounding counties to form the Quilters of Kershaw County (QKC). The QKC became an affiliate of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County. Currently 50 members strong the QKC includes members from Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, and Fairfield counties in South Carolina.

The Fine Arts Center is funded in part by the Frederick S. Upton Foundation and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional funding provided by the City of Camden, Kershaw County, and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina along with donations from businesses and individuals.

Artist Testimonials:

“The downtown area is a growing part of Charlotte. The performance arts are a very viable part of Charlotte. I would like to see the visual arts grow into the same entity.  When ACC was operating the show advertising was not as strong as Patty has been able to achieve.  It will just take time to bring it back but I know a lot of people that never missed the show. This is the only indoor show in Charlotte. For a city so large this show is a premier show.
Mia Tyson, Fiber, Tega Cay, SC

“I was pleased to see those patrons who attended the American Craft Council Show welcome back a quality event like Patty’s Charlotte Fine Art Show.”
Edward Barnes, Wood, Woolwine, VA

“Hot Works has done a superb job in promoting this show in the Charlotte and surrounding areas.  The word is out, attendance is up and there is the potential to make great sales at this event!”
Lori Warren, Jewelry-Precious, Stanley, NC

“I want to do your Charlotte Fine Art Show™ because you are an experienced, concerned and energetic organizer who works hard to put together a good show for the artists. I want to do Charlotte because it is a promising market where, in spite of the overall poor economy, I was found by some sophisticated knowledgeable buyers. Let’s also consider the added comfort of an indoor show; and one that is still affordable is to be cherished and supported!
Kathleen Weir-West, Fiber, Hendersonville, NC

“I’ve done several Hot Works shows – each one has improved upon the other – and they get substantially better than the others even “under difficult times”.  She brings the people out and they buy.  I love the way Patty runs her shows; she is getting a great reputation as a hard working promoter that cares about the artists.”
Jonathon G. Stopper, Jewelry, Sarasota, FL

Work by Gregory Hubbard

The Charlotte Fine Art Show™ is a high quality, juried fine art & fine craft event with world renowned and top notch local Carolina artists who offer their art work for sale to the public in all forms of media. It can be compared with quality of art to the ACC show; only offers more variety and includes fine art such as paintings, sculpture, photography, in addition to fine crafts of wood, fiber, clay, glass, jewelry and more.

In the past 3 years, Hot Works presented the Charlotte Fine Art Show™ at the old Merchandise Mart.  Upon artists’ requests, the art show is moving to the Convention Center.  This event has grown to be Charlotte’s Premier Art Event – it is different than other art shows in the area in a number of ways. For some, this will be their only event in North Carolina. This is your one chance in a year to see artists who display in New York, Miami, LA, Chicago and Atlanta.

The Charlotte Fine Art Show™ opens on Friday, Dec. 9, from 11am-7pm; Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10am-5pm; and Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10am-5pm. In addition to the great art, the Institute for the Arts & Education is a non profit 501c3 organization that is part of this event. Its mission is artistry and community enrichment and helps find ways to enrich lives and strengthen the community through the power of arts. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that enhances the artwork and creates a relaxing environment for art lovers.  At the door, admission is $8; 3-day return weekend pass is $10; 12 & under free. Advanced discounted tickets can be purchased at (www.TicketLeap.com).

The show takes place in the Charlotte Convention Center, Hall C, located st 501 S. College Street in Charlotte. There is plenty of parking next door at LAZ Parking or adjacent to the Convention Center at Nascar Museum, plus many street side parking lots throughout uptown Charlotte.

Hot Works flagship show, the Orchard Lake Fine Art Show® held in West Bloomfield, MI, has been voted in the top 100 art shows in the country the last five years in a row! That is the same quality of art we bring to Charlotte. There is something for everyone at this event. Enjoy the sounds of various musicians; live art demonstrations allow the patrons to see how some of the art work is made in wood carvings, paintings and clay wheel throwing. The kids can create refrigerator-quality masterpieces in the kid’s art section and the rest enjoy the time selecting that perfect art work for their living room, bedroom, kitchen, office, holiday gifts, and even outdoors in the garden! Clearly this event is different, from the indoor setting to the quality and variety of fine art. Hot Works also presents the Boca Raton Fine Art Show™ in Boca Raton, FL; and the Estero Fine Art Show™ in Estero, FL.
