The Indie Market in Conway, SC, is an upscale indoor/outdoor event located at the entrance of the Waccamaw Riverwalk, from Second Ave, down Laurel Street to the fountain.

South Carolina Arts Commission Gives Quarterly Project Grant to Ed Streeter of Conway, SC

Ed Streeter of Conway, SC, has been awarded a $1000 Quarterly Project Support for Artist Grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission for the 2016 fiscal year. The support will allow Streeter to present the First Saturday Glassblowing Demonstrations. The demonstrations are free and enable the public to see and learn about the traditional craft of glassblowing.

The Quarterly Project Support for Artists, which is funded in part by the National Endowment of the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina, will allow Ed Streeter and Conway Glass to host glassblowing demonstrations free to the public on Oct. 3, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5, 2015. Streeter is proud to continue the tradition of offering free glass demos and is honored to be recognized by the South Carolina Arts Commission for his dedication in bringing art to the public.

Streeter talks with crowd at First Saturday event

He says, “On the First Saturday I create colorful bowls, vessels and sculpture with 2000 degree glass and demonstrate various traditional and experimental glass techniques. Assisted by Barbara Streeter, our demonstrations are both educational and entertaining.” Conway Glass, Inc. is helping Ed Streeter meet his obligation of matching the Arts Commission grant with local dollars. Those who are supporting the grant project are: Conway Glass, Inc., Ed Streeter, Barbara Streeter and Dr. Dennis Stevens. Local residents can see how the Arts Commission grant and local funds are benefiting the First Saturday Glass Demos and see how Ed Streeter brings art to his community by visiting Conway Glass, Inc. at 209 Laurel Street in downtown Conway, SC, on Saturday, Oct. 3, Nov. 7 and on Dec. 5, 2015. Demonstrations are free, open to the public and held each hour 10am until 4pm.

The South Carolina Arts Commission is the state agency charged with creating a thriving arts environment that benefits all South Carolinians, regardless of their location or circumstances. Created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1967, the Arts Commission is working to increase public participation in the arts by providing services, grants and leadership initiatives in three areas: arts education, community arts development and artist development. Ed Streeter is a visual artist and co-owns Conway Glass with his wife Barbara. In his studio, he creates custom stained glass windows and blown glass vessels and sculpture. The studio welcomes hundreds of visitors to each First Saturday Glass event, who then spend the day shopping and dining in downtown Conway. In addition, he has enjoyed teaching glass classes and demonstrating various glass techniques to the community for over 25 years. The First Saturday Glassblowing Demonstrations educate the public and establish an appreciation for the craft while raising the awareness of how artists work to create quality handcrafted products. The studio events serve as a catalyst; Conway Glass is a hub for the arts and is a positive economic anchor for downtown Conway.

Conway Glass in Conway, SC, Awarded Sculptural Commission by Brookgreen Gardens

Conway Glass and glass artists, Ed & Barbara Streeter are delighted to announce the commission of a series of glass sculptures as part of Brookgreen’s 2015 Nights of a Thousand Candles, December 3-5, 10-12, and 17-19, 2015.

Ed and Barbara’s installation will consist of unique glass sculptures that are handblown, fused, cut and sculpted. The sitespecific, sculptural glass work will be installed in Anne’s Garden, an intimate walled garden located in the Huntington Sculpture Garden at Brookgreen Gardens. Barbara Streeter said, “Our sculptures for Anne’s Garden will celebrate the wonder and playfulness of childhood. We hope our glass sculptural installation will amuse and delight visitors to Brookgreen Gardens during the holiday season. We hope our sculptures add to all the great memories created during the holiday season relevant to Christmas, family and fun at the beach.”

Brookgreen Gardens opened in 1932 as America’s first public sculpture garden. Its garden spaces and the collection of sculpture displayed within them have continued to expand through the years. The collection now contains over 1400 works spanning the entire period of American sculpture from the early 1800s to the present, and its placement in over 35 acres of garden and landscape settings creates an extraordinary combination of art and nature. Brookgreen Gardens, is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit whose mission is to display figurative sculpture by American artists and to preserve regional plants, animals, and history. Glass artists Ed and Barbara Streeter have owned and operated Conway Glass, Inc. for 25 years.

CREATE! Conway is excited to present the 10th Annual Live Oak Art & Music Fest on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, from 10am – 5pm in Conway, SC. It’s a fun, family event presented under the oaks and on the lawn of the Horry County Courthouse (3rd & Elm). This year’s celebration of creativity features an Artisan Market with fine arts & crafts for sale, a KIDS CREATE! Makers Zone and an awesome line up of talented musicians to keep you entertained throughout the day.

The deadline for registration is Sept. 26, 2015.

The 10th Annual Live Oak Art & Music Fest is hosted by Create! Conway, a non-profit community art promotion and art education organization. Conway Glass in Conway, SC, Offers Free First Saturday Glass Blowing Demos – Oct. 4, 2014

Conway Glass’ First Saturday Glass Blowing Demos fire up in the studio on Laurel Street in Conway, SC, at 10am on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014. The demos will continue through to 4pm.

Working with 2150 degree glass is amazing and we’ll show you how ancient glass making techniques and traditions are still used today. We’ll be demonstrating how we create our blown glass pumpkins using the Venetian-style of glass making.


First Saturday Glass Blowing Demos are free and it’s a fun and educational family event. Our glass studio is located in downtown Conway adjacent to excellent restaurants and the Waccamaw Riverwalk.

First Saturday Glass Blowing Demos and the Experimental Glass Theatre are components of the Conway Open Studio Project. The Project is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. CREATE! Conway invites all fine artists and artisans to apply for a booth at the Oct. 4, 2014 Live Oak Art & Music Fest’s Artisan Market in Conway, SC. The Live Oak is held each year along with the City of Conway’s Fall Festival. On Saturday, Oct. 4 – downtown Conway celebrates creativity and community with arts and crafts, street and food vendors, lots of live entertainment, glass blowing demonstrations, a car show and the Farmers Market.

The Live Oak Art & Music Fest is Conway’s premier cultural event showcasing fine arts and crafts for sale along with live music and entertainment. In addition, we’re excited to add a brand new component to the Live Oak – the Kids CREATE! Makers Zone, a 20′ x 20′ tented creative space – offering engaging art projects and art making activities, for free, to kids of all ages.
