Arts Council of York County in Rock Hill, SC, Announce Winners of the COROART Awards

November 26, 2019

The Coroplast Tape Corporation delivered a variety of technical adhesive tapes to Winthrop University where visual art students of Shaun Cassidy, Professor of Fine Arts, were invited to reinvent the materials in innovative ways. The completed works of art were displayed first at Coroplast Tape Corporation’s US headquarters in Rock Hill, SC. Select pieces were then moved to the Arts Council of York County’s Center for the Arts where they were displayed through Nov. 24, 2019. The winners were announced at a public reception and COROART Awards presentation at the Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019.

First Prize winner by Griffin Cordell

Fifty works of art were in contention for cash prizes presented by the Coroplast Tape Corporation. While there was no specific thematic content or subject direction given, the concept of COROART focused on experimenting with modern and technical materials. The COROART Award presented by Coroplast includes 1st Prize ($1,000), 2nd Prize ($500), and 3rd Prize ($250). The 2019 COROART Awards jury includes a panel of three judges: Ashley Beard (Arts Council of York County Board member, art teacher), J. Michael Simpson [artist, UNC – Charlotte (retired)], and Tom Stanley [artist, Winthrop University (retired)].
