Fort Mill History Museum Will Soon be Moving to New Location in Fort Mill, SC

July 5, 2015

The Fort Mill History Museum will be moving from the White Street facility to the historic Wilson House at 107 Clebourne Street in Fort Mill, SC, this summer. The Wilson house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of 1992. Built in 1869 by Stewart Wilson it is significant as an example of Victorian residential architecture. It was one of the first homes built on Main Street and was moved to its present location in the 1920’s to make way for commercial expansion.

The new location will put the museum right in the heart of downtown activity, and present new opportunities to promote the community’s culture and rich history to visitors and newcomers alike. This is a new beginning for the Fort Mill History Museum! Staff, volunteers and board members are excited about the move and look forward to new projects, future exhibits, educational programs, seminars, and cultural activities. The Fort Mill community will be an important part of the success of these events, and of the Fort Mill History Museum’s mission to collect, preserve and promote our community’s history.

As a result of the upcoming move, the museum will be closing its N. White Street site on July 6, 2015, with plans to reopen at the 107 Clebourne Street address later this summer. A grand opening date will be announced in coming weeks. We thank the Fort Mill community for your support and patience.
