USC School of Visual Art and Design in Columbia, SC, Calls for Submission for the 63rd Annual Art Auction – Deadline Feb. 9, 2018

Numerous works of art including: sculpture, printmaking, photography, drawing, painting and ceramics – made by faculty, current students and alumni of the USC School of Visual Art and Design, in Columbia, SC, as well as local artists will go to the highest bidders on Mar. 28, 2018, from 6pm until 9pm in the McMaster Gallery at the 63rd Annual USC Art Auction.

Entrants may submit a maximum of two works. All three labels must be attached individually to the back of the work. Entry forms will be available in the main office, outside office 221, and in room MM 229 during the submission dates. If picking up entry forms in person is not possible, please email Kara Gunter at (gunterkm@mailbox.sc.edu).

ELIGIBILITY

All students, faculty, and alumni from the USC School of Visual Art and Design and local artists are eligible and may submit up to TWO works. Painting, prints, and drawings must be dry, appropriately framed or matted with finished edges. Works will be juried prior to the auction. No works that require maintenance, are biodegradable, include loose soil/grit, and/or wider than 6’ or exceed 75 pounds will be accepted.

There will be no more than 60 total works included this year’s auction.

A portion of the works will be presented in the live auction and some will be reserved for silent auction bidding. The School of Visual Art and Design will retain 40% of the sale price. Proceeds from the auctioned works are divided between the artists and the USC Art Scholarship and Gallery Fund.

Work is due in Room MM 229 (1615 Senate Street, Columbia, SC 29208) by 4:30pm on Feb. 9th, 2018.

PLEASE PRINT – Maximum 2 entries. Fill out TWO forms (A, B, C) for each work and attach separately to back with tape. The gallery will handle all items for exhibition with extreme care during the loan period but cannot be responsible for works that are inordinately fragile or inherently subject to damage. Submission of any entry constitutes an agreement with all conditions set forth in the prospectus.

ART AUCTION EVENT

Preview of accepted works will be open for public viewing from 1-6pm on Mar. 28, 2018. The Preview Party will begin at 6pm and the live auction will start at 6:30pm. The works will be auctioned by both live and silent auction.

The artwork will be on display for public viewing starting at 1pm on March 29. Anyone who cannot attend the Art Auction event can fill out an Absentee Form to participate. There will be a Preview Party at 6pm followed by the Live Auction at 6:30pm. The Silent Auction will be open at 6pm and close about 30 minutes after the Live Auction ends.

The auction is sponsored by the School of Visual Art and Design in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences. Proceeds from the auctioned works are divided between the artists and the university’s art scholarship and gallery fund. Credit cards (excluding Discover) and checks will be accepted.

The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, is presenting “Arte Corporis: Exploring the Anatomical Body,” featuring a group exhibition including works by Melissa Gwyn, Dawn Hunter, Lisa Temple-Cox, and Mallory Wetherell, on view in the McMaster Gallery, through Apr. 1, 2016.

Please join us for the Closing Exhibition Reception Thursday, Mar. 31, 2016, from 5:30-7:30pm.

The “Arte Corporis: Exploring the Anatomical Body” exhibition showcases anatomically and medically inspired contemporary art including drawing, painting, and ceramics. The artists in the exhibition employ their own connection to the study of medicine and/or anatomy through a wide range of applications and approaches.

This visual art exhibition will coincide with the two-day symposium “Art, Anatomy, and Medicine since 1700”. The symposium is sponsored by the University of South Carolina’s Provost’s Office and the School of Visual Art and Design, in partnership with the Columbia Museum of Art. The related symposium will showcase scholarly papers that address visual, theoretical, cultural, historical and/or contemporary connections, relationships, conflicts and/or collaborations among the visual arts, anatomy/dissection, and medicine from the eighteenth century to the present.

The symposium will be held at the Columbia Museum of Art, Columbia, SC, Mar. 31 – Apr., 1, 2016.

University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, Announces Winners of “Annual Student Art Exhibition” at McMaster Gallery

The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, announces winners of Annual Student Art Exhibition at McMaster Gallery in the Department of Art of the University of South Carolina, on view from Mar. 4 – 26, 2014.

Please join us for the Awards Reception with the student artists on Tuesday, Mar. 4, 2014, from 5-7pm. The public is invited.

Each year USC’s Art Department invites students to submit work in any media for the annual juried exhibition. This years competition was juried by USC Art Alumnus and South Carolina artist Scott Peek, he selected 48 works ranging from traditional media such as drawing, photography and painting, and sculptural installations. The works are a good representation of the departments undergraduate and graduate majors.
