Help Beautify Downtown Morehead City, NC, with Original Art! – Deadline Mar. 5, 2018

February 27, 2018

Downtown Morehead City, Inc. is a non-profit organization that promotes, enhances and preserves the downtown community by fostering economic growth. One of the projects the Design Committee of the organization is pursuing is wrapping four Department of Transportation signal boxes downtown with original artwork. They are looking for artists willing to donate their talent and time to create digital artwork which can be transferred to an adhesive wrap.

The boxes are all located on the South Side of Arendell Street at the west side of the intersections with 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th streets. The boxes are all 76” tall and 32” wide on two sides and 24” wide on two sides. There is a vent and a keyhole which will need to be cut in the wrap at installation. Each box has a unique identification number which will need to be placed in the artwork (but not large and only on the door side).

The organization will pay the cost of permitting and having the wraps made and installed on the boxes. The estimate on the life cycle of the wrap is around five years.

They are open to artwork suggestions which will need to be approved by both the Design Committee and DOT. If you are interested in showcasing your artwork on one of these boxes, please let them know.

Carolina Artist Gallery in Morehead City, NC, Calls for Entries for “Heart of a Man” Exhibition – Deadline Nov. 2, 2014

October 8, 2014

That man in your life dragging you down or, on the other hand, “rockin” your world?  We all have relationships with men.  Some are good.  Some are very good but others are unpleasant or downright  bad. “Heart of a Man”, a show by Carolina Artist Gallery, in Morehead City, NC, will feature art that tells the story of our relationships with men. All have a father. Some were kind and loving; others were self centered and demanding. Some were just down right mean. Others were missing or not around much. Many have or have had a husband or significant other. Again, some of those men were respectful, loving and made the world wonderful. Others brought conflict, anger and disappointment. Many have brothers, sons and uncles. All have male heroes and male villains. Tell us the story of these relationships through art.

“What Have I Done,” by Ike Terrell

Bring us the “Heart of a Man” through talent and skill.  This will be an opportunity to pay tribute, ridicule, express gratitude, get in touch with feelings and emotions and perhaps have a therapeutic experience. For this show art should show emotion, tell a story and connect with gallery visitors.

Carolina Artist Gallery is accepting artwork, both 2D and 3D,  for “Heart of a Man” through Nov. 2, 2014, and the show will run until Jan 3, 2015.

Entries will be judged by Cathy Crowell who recently retired from the program she began in 1983 as Coordinator of the Photography Technology Program at Carteret Community College.  Crowell earned a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Florida State University in 1982, a Master of Arts in Teaching: Art, from the University of South Carolina in 1977, a Bachelor of Art: General Studio from the University of South Carolina in 1975, and studied during the Summer Session at the University of Dijon in Dijon, France in 1974. Crowell has been the recipient  of a number of artistic grants and awards and has exhibited her work in a number of well known exhibitions.

Specific information about requirements for entries and entry forms are available at Carolina Artist Gallery or on our website at (www.carolinaartistgallery.com). Carolina Artist Gallery is a nonprofit artists’ co-op located at 800 Evans Street, at the corner of 8th Street on the historic Morehead waterfront.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception for “Heart of a Man” on Nov. 14, 2014 from 4 to 7pm at Carolina Artist Gallery. The show runs through Jan. 3, 2015 and all work is available for purchase.
