Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy in Charlotte, NC, is offering another installment in its Conversation with an Artist series featuring painter Virginia Derryberry on Apr. 7, 2011, from 6:30-8:pm.

Derryberry will present, Caravaggio and Me: The Weight of Light.

“This past June, I was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome.  In addition to working on a new painting project in my studio there, I was privileged to see the Caravaggio exhibition commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death.  In addition to the six major paintings of his in several churches around Rome, the exhibition held at the Scuderie del Quirinale featured over 20 paintings from his brief but dramatic career.  I will speak about his  use of light and shadow from my perspective as a painter.  Additionally, I will be showing images of my most recent paintings, as influenced by my stay in Rome.”

A light dinner and wine will be served, reservations are required, and the event is limited to 30 people. The fee is $20 per person.
