Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Calls for Entries for Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase – Deadline May 30, 2015

Artists who wish to exhibit in the 43rd annual Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase on Main Street in downtown Brevard, NC, for July 4th may apply for a booth space through the Transylvania Community Arts Council until May 30, 2015. Applications and more information are available by calling the TC Arts Council at 828/884-2787 or by e-mailing to (tcarts@comporium.net). All art vendors must have their own tent, tables and chairs.

Each year, the Fine Arts and Crafts Showcase features up to 45 regional artists and crafters who are juried into the show based on their excellent original art and craftwork. The event will take place from 9am to 5pm, in conjunction with Heart of Brevard’s Fourth of July Celebration and Transylvania Region AACA Classic Car Show in downtown Brevard. These three-festivals-in-one attract up to 14,000 people annually with music, arts, crafts, food, children’s activities and more. This year the event will take place on Saturday, July 4. Non-artist vendors must contact the Heart of Brevard at 828/884-3278.

The application and jury fee is $125. Applicants will be notified of jury decisions and receive important event information by June 5, 2015.

Virginia Pendergrass of Brevard, NC, Gets Painting of Mt. Pleasant, SC, in “Women Painters of the Southeast” Show

“Coastal Carolina”, an oil painting by Brevard, NC, artist Virginia Pendergrass, has been selected for the “2015 Juried Exhibition of Women Painters of the Southeast” (WPSE). The 2015 WPSE exhibition will open at the Blue Ridge Arts Association in Blue Ridge, GA, on Apr. 10, 2015, with a reception from 6- 8:30pm.

“Coastal Carolina” is a view from the edge of a marsh in Mt. Pleasant, SC, on a brilliant summer day. Pendergrass hoped to express the feel of the heat and the shimmer in the distance in the beautiful marshlands.

According to Pendergrass, “I believe we naturally respond with pleasure to beauty in our environment.” Her goal is to capture her pleasure in nature, outdoors or painting from life and plein air sketches in the studio, and pass it on through her paintings.

Pendergrass is a previous WPSE award-winner. Over her 15 year painting career, her paintings have also been selected for show in national competitions of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and Paint The Parks. Her paintings have won many local, regional and national awards. Her paintings can be seen locally at the Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, and the Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville, NC.

The WPSE exhibition will continue through Apr. 30, 2015.  Blue Ridge Arts is located at 420 West Main St., Blue Ridge, GA.

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has placed an open call to artists in WNC for their March exhibit entitled: “Of the Earth: An Organic Exhibition”. Mediums requested include: fiber, clay, wood, metal . . . anything coming from the earth.

Artwork must be delivered on March 2 or 3, 2015, and the opening reception will be held on March 6 from 5-7pm at the TC Arts Council located at 349 S. Caldwell Street in Brevard.  The public is invited to view this exhibit from March 6 – 27. There will be a public reception to meet the artists on Friday, March 6 from 5 – 7 pm. (www.tcarts.org).

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, invites visual artists to enter their artwork in two open exhibits in 2015. In February the open call exhibit is entitled “WOOD, WIND & WATER.” Any medium will be accepted as long as it fits within the theme. Artwork and applications should be delivered to the TC Arts Council on Feb. 2 or 3. The exhibit will run from Feb. 6 – 27 with an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 6 from 5-7pm. There is no charge to enter this exhibit.

The TC Arts Council’s March open exhibit is entitled “Of the Earth: An Organic Exhibition.” Mediums include: wood, metal, clay, fiber, glass, mixed media, recycled or upcycled artwork. Artwork and applications should be delivered to the TC Arts Council on Mar. 2 and 3.  The exhibit will run from Mar. 6 – 27 with an opening reception on Friday, Mar. 6 from 5-7pm. There is no charge to enter this exhibit.

This summer the Transylvania Community Arts Council will also host its 43rd annual Fine Arts & Crafts Showcase on Main Street in downtown Brevard on July 4th. Artists must have the proper equipment for this street festival set up to be included in the ART BLOCK. Tents should be 10 x 10 and artists should have their own tables and art displays. Applications are due by May 30, 2015. This is a juried show. The entry fee is $125. This annual showcase is a part of the Brevard July 4th Festival on Main Street.

Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Calls for Artists for ArtMart Holiday Show and Sale

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, is looking for artists and crafters to sell work at its 12th annual ArtMart fundraiser. Contributing artists are able to sell work that tends to clutter studios – pieces that may not have sold in the past or did not turn out exactly as expected. So set aside a box in your studio and start collecting that clutter now!

Artists receive 60% of sales and 40% goes to TC Arts Council to support its youth art programs.

The ArtMart public sale will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9am – 4pm. A casual wine and cheese preview party will precede it on Friday, Nov. 14, from 5-8pm. The preview party is attended by members, friends, sponsors and donors of the TC Arts Council. Artists will be able to set up their artwork at the TC Arts Council on Nov. 13 and 14 from 9:30am – 5pm. TC Arts’ volunteers will staff the gallery and handle sales on Friday and Saturday.

Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Presents “Chair-ity” Transformed: An Evening of Art – Oct. 12, 2014

The Transylvania Community Arts Council, in Brevard, NC, will host a fall fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, entitled  “Chair-ity” Transformed: An Evening of Art. The event will be held from 5pm – 8pm at the new restaurant, JAIME’S, located inside the Old Grover’s Building at 44 East Main Street. Tickets are only $55 and are on sale now at Number 7 Arts on Main St. and at 349 S. Caldwell Street in Brevard (TC Arts Council).

Tickets bearers receive heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chef Jaime Hernandez, two glasses of wine from Broad Street Wines or craft beer from Brevard Brewing. There will be live artist demonstrations, and silent and live auctions. The silent auction includes artwork, chairs and more. Keith Dragt, co-owner of Trade-Arama Folk Art & Antiques is our (trained) guest auctioneer and will sell off a juried selection of chairs and furniture.

Jaime’s menu for this special evening includes; delectable duck & andouille sausage gumbo, jambalaya with cajun rice, New Orleans barbecue shrimp & grits, a carving station, jumbo lump crabmeat ravigote, his famous crawfish cheesecake with a cheese & charcuterie display. Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Calls for Artists to Create or Decorate Chairs for “Chair-ity” Auction

The Transylvania Community Arts Council has placed a call for artists to help with their “Chair-ity” Auction that will be held on Sunday, August 3 at the Brevard Lumberyard and The Haen Gallery in Brevard, NC. Tickets to the event will go on sale in July.

Tammy Hopkins with the TC Arts Council said, “We are looking for artists to create chairs or find old chairs and refurbish them artistically. These chairs do not have to functionable furniture – they can simply be pieces of artwork.” The TC Arts Council has chairs in the basement that can be picked up and decorated, painted, carved, collaged etc . . . or artists can go out and find their own chair or unique piece of furniture.

The TC Arts Council would like to get the chairs back by June 20, 2014, for PR purposes. As the artists participating you can get a ticket to the event $50 value OR you can get 20% of the sale of your donated chair. If chairs are NOT your thing, we can use art items and other fun treasures for the silent auction.

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, has announced its exhibits for the 2014 season and has placed an open call for artists to enter. Tammy Hopkins, executive director at the TC Arts Council said, “We have a beautiful gallery located inside an old church that lends itself to interesting exhibits. Each month we have a different theme or a different arts organization on display. In 2013 we hosted 456 artists of all ages in our gallery.”

Call for Artists 2014:

Theme: “Interwoven” – This is an open art exhibit at the TC Arts Council from Feb. 7- 28, for fiber and basket artists. Deadline to enter Feb. 4.

Theme: “Exploring The Great Outdoors”  – all mediums accepted. This exhibit will be on display at the TC Arts Council from Mar. 7 – 28. Entry deadline is Mar. 4.

Theme: “Walk on The Wild Side” – animals in art – This is an open art exhibit at the TC Arts Council from May 9 – 30. Deadline to enter is May 6.

Theme: “Potters of WNC” – This is an open exhibit for Potters from WNC at the TC Arts Council from June 6 – 20. Deadline to enter is June 3.

Theme: “ArtMart” – end of year clearance sale. Artists its time to clean out your studio and put the artwork on sale so you begin the New Year fresh! This event will run Nov. 14 & 15.  Deadline to enter ArtMart is November 10.

TC Arts Call for Artwork for 2014 Fundraisers:

The TC Arts Council will also be hosting a couple of fundraisers throughout the 2014 season and is looking for help from area artists. TC Arts has bowling pins available for artists to take and create new artwork with. These new “bowling pin” pieces of artwork would then be auctioned off at the March bowling fundraiser. A percentage of the auctioned item would be given back to the artist.

The “Chair–ity” event will be held in August and TC Arts is asking artist to help them decorate or create unique chairs for the “Chair-ity” Auction. If you are interested the TC Arts Council can provide a chair. A percentage of the auctioned item would be given back to the artist. The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, is looking for artists and crafters to sell work at its eleventh annual ArtMart fundraiser. Contributing artists are able to sell work that tends to clutter studios – pieces that may not have sold in the past or did not turn out exactly as expected. So set aside a box in your studio and start collecting that clutter now! Artists receive 60% of sales and 40% goes to TC Arts Council to support its youth art programs.
