Mint Hill Arts in Mint Hill, NC, Features Maria Elena Ferran at Monthly Meeting – Sept. 26, 2017

August 31, 2017

Mint Hill Arts is very fortunate and honored to host at its September monthly meeting Maria Elena Ferran, one of New York’s early 80’s artists. After studying painting, photography, and design at Sweet Briar College and New York’s School of Visual Arts, she entered the New York art scene. Her abstract paintings continually express themes of the human subconscious, nature, spirituality and world events.

Work by Maria Elena Ferran

The program is free and open to the public. Mark your calendars to attend this special event on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, from 7 to 8:30pm, at Mint Hill Arts at 11205 Lawyers Road in Mint Hill, NC.

Ferran will give a short talk and guided discussion, followed by guided exercises, focusing on human themes, movement, color, and expression. We will then work in mixed media including acrylics, spray paint, paper, and found materials that come together to create a large, collaborative group mural that will be donated to Mint Hill Arts.

The impulse and desire to communicate with each other has been a driving force in society from the very beginning of human history. Inspired by the cave paintings at Lascaux, “Cave Walls: Express, Empower, Transform,” this collaborative program is designed, for artists of all skill levels, to open up the creative mind, remove blocks, and empower and build expressive confidence with art materials while connecting with other participants through intuitive visual messaging. Developing a creative visual dialogue with others will help build both confidence and empathy, and foster an atmosphere of cooperation and community connection.

Mint Hill Arts in Mint Hill, NC, is Searching for a New Space

December 2, 2011

Mint Hill Arts (MHA) in Mint Hill, NC, announced plans today to relocate within the Mint Hill area. MHA’s current lease at 7714 Matthews Mint Hill Road expires December 31st. This represented an opportunity for MHA to reevaluate the needs of their members as well as the Mint Hill community and begin the process of finding a new, better suited location. Unfortunately, this means that Mint Hill Arts must close temporarily.

“Our executive committee has come to this decision after many hours of consideration, discussion and investigation. This is the beginning of a new chapter for MHA and we look forward to a long and bright future serving the community. We hope that the community will continue to support our efforts during this interim. The most immediate way you can show your support is to go to (www.minthillarts.org) and donate to our $10K matching challenge.” stated Laura Sussman-Randall, President of Mint Hill Arts.

MHA will continue with scheduled classes through the end of December in their current location although the Gallery and Gift Shop will be closed until further notice. In addition, the December Juried Show will be postponed. It will be rescheduled as soon as possible and details will be announced via the MHA website and local media. Plans are to maintain the winter/spring class offerings as scheduled.

“MHA is proud of what we have accomplished and provided the community thus far. Now more than ever, Mint Hill Arts depends on its members and patrons. Remember that the soul of Mint Hill Arts is not our location, but our people” stated Anthony Billotto, MHA Vice-President.

News and details about the new location and reopening date will be communicated through the website (www.minthillarts.org) and the local media. In the meantime, please contact Laura Sussman-Randall (laura@minthillarts.org) or Tony Billotto (aebillotto@gmail.com) with questions.

Mint Hill Arts is a volunteer driven, non-profit organization with 250 members. Our projects are made possible, in part, with funding from the Arts & Science Council, the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, and the National Endowment of the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
