Charlotte Art League in Charlotte, NC, Calls for Entries for “The Power of Innovation: Art Inside the New Energy Age” – Deadline Oct. 30, 2011

The Charlotte Art League and Siemens Energy, Inc. are partnering in a regional juried art competition awarding $1,000 in cash awards and a grand prize of a $10,000 purchase award from Siemens. “The Power of Innovation: Art Inside the New Energy Age” is to celebrate the expansion of Siemens Energy Turbine-Generator Charlotte Facility into a North American Energy Hub.

Artists age 18 and older with a connection to North or South Carolina (i.e. place of birth, educational or work affiliation, or gallery representation) are invited to enter artwork based on the theme of Energy, Power, Sustainability, and/or Innovation. Artwork for both indoor and outdoor exhibition is desired. Acceptance into the exhibition will allow artists, both amateur and professional, to offer their work for sale and to compete for prizes and awards. Artists may deliver work to the Charlotte Art League at 1517 Camden Rd, Charlotte, NC, October 27 – 30, 2011.  A detailed prospectus is available online at (www.charlotteartleague.org).

Juror for the competition is Jane Allen Nodine, Professor of Art and Director of the Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery at the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, SC. Nodine will select the artwork to be exhibited and awards totaling $1,000 in prizes. Siemens will present a Grand Prize Purchase Award of $10,000 to the best work in the show. Additional art will be selected for purchase awards by Siemens to add to their permanent collection at their newly expanded facility in Charlotte.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception Friday November 4, 6-9pm at the Charlotte Art League, 1517 Camden Rd., in historic South End, Charlotte, NC.   Awards will be presented at 7pm. “The Power of Innovation: Art Inside the New Energy Age” will be on exhibit November 4 through 25, 2011.

Siemens manufactures and services large generators and steam turbines. Its facility is expanding to include gas turbines for the 60-Hertz energy market, with an official grand opening scheduled to be held mid November 2011. The site will manufacture some of the most energy efficient products for power generation and will add more than 1,000 jobs over the next few years.
