The Greenville County Museum of Art in Greenville, SC, will be offering special art related events every Sunday at 2pm. They have just announced their schedule for early 2013.

January 2013

Jan. 6 – Artists in Action – Join painter Anthony Conway in GCMA Studio 1 as he demonstrates favorite techniques and his own unique approach to oil painting.

Jan. 13 – American Legends: Taking a Second Look – Don’t miss this entertaining and informative program, presented by Greenville Chatauqua. Join Joe Thompson, visual arts chair for the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities and Rusty Godfrey, social studies chair for SCGSAH, for a look at such American legends as Susan B. Anthony, Davy Crockett, and Malcolm X. (Snow date January 20 at 2 pm).

Jan. 20 – Gallery Talk – Explore the world’s largest public collection of works by American watercolor master Andrew Wyeth right here in Greenville. GCMA docent John Bies will share insights and stories relating to some of Wyeth’s iconic paintings.

Jan. 27 – Family Art Adventure: Warm and Wooly – Taking inspiration from imagery in Andrew Wyeth’s winter scenes, fiber artist Deb Potter will lead a hands-on felting workshop in GCMA Studio 1.

February 2013

Feb. 3 – Sketching in the Galleries – Join us in the galleries to study and sketch from the exhibition “Here’s Your Freedom”. Pencils and sketchpads provided.

Feb. 10 – Gallery Talk – To mark the opening of the exhibition “Jamie Wyeth, Rockwell Kent and Monhegan,” Michael K. Komanecky, Chief Curator of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine, presents “The Art of the Wyeths.”

Feb. 17 – Befores & Afters – Whether rescuing artworks from devastating floods and fires or from the ravages of time, noted paper conservator Christine Young restores family heirlooms as well as museum treasures. Listen to her fascinating presentation on the art and science of paper conservation.

Feb. 24 – Artists in Action – Take a look at the amazing pots in the exhibition “David Drake: Potter and Poet of Edgefield District” and then join Upstate ceramicist Jay Owens to learn more about making beauty from clay and dirt.
