Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Announce Winners of the “2021 Biennale, 27th National Juried Art Exhibition”

Art League of Hilton Head awarded 13 winners at the opening reception of the “2021 Biennale, 27th National Juried Art Exhibition” on May 7, 2021. Over $5,000 in cash prizes were awarded. The exhibit runs through May 26, 2021, at Art League Gallery located inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, SC.

On Saturday, May 8, many patrons and artists returned to Art League Gallery to attend a “Critic’s Coffee” where judge, Marc Hanson, discussed his selection process, judging criteria and offered commentary on some of the winning artwork.

Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, invites artists to enter the “2021 Biennale”, its 27th National Juried Exhibition, held every other year across multiple media types including; Oil or Acrylic, Pastel, Watermedia, Photography, Mixed Media, Three-Dimensional, or All Other. Over $5000 in cash prizes will be awarded. All works of art selected by jurors will be on display at Art League Gallery. This gallery provides the finest exhibit space with high tourist and community visibility.

The 27th “Biennale” judge is Marc Hanson, a nationally known, award-winning landscape artist currently based on Tybee Island, near Savannah, GA. He is a Master Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.M.) having won awards of excellence over numerous years at the OPA National Exhibit, including a Bronze Medal for Painting Excellence in 2011. He has also placed four times in The Pastel Journal’s ‘Pastel 100’ competition, among many other prestigious awards throughout his career.

Hanson has been published in national art publications, including being featured on the covers of “Plein Air” and “Southwest Art Magazine”, and in the book “Oil Painting Secrets With The Masters,” by Cindy Salaski. His work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout the United States and abroad and can be found in both private and public collections. In addition to painting, Hanson teaches landscape workshops both in-studio and en Plein air, locally and around the country.

The “2021 Biennale” exhibition will be free and open to the public from May 2 – 26, 2021 at Art League Gallery, located inside Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, SC. An opening reception and awards ceremony will take place on Friday, May 7, from 5-7pm.

Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Announces Award Winners from “CraftHiltonHead2020”

Fine art craft artists from 22 states competed for cash prizes at “CraftHiltonHead2020” 7th National Juried Fine Art Craft Guild Exhibition, presented by Art League of Hilton Head. This national, juried craft exhibition showcases over 70 two and three dimensional high-quality craftworks at Art League of Hilton Head Gallery located mid-island, inside Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, 14 Shelter Cove Lane, Hilton Head Island, SC.

The award-winners were announced on Facebook Live for a Virtual Awards Reception on Oct. 7, 2020. The winning selections were chosen by the Director of Cultural Affairs for Hilton Head Island, Jenn McEwen. $3,000 in prizes were awarded.

At ‘Got Art?’ EVERYONE gets art! From the Art League of Hilton Head, SC – Oct. 1, 2020

The Art League of Hilton Head’s annual fundraising benefit, Got Art?, makes collectors out of art enthusiasts. Each $100 ticket provides participation in the live Zoom drawing and guarantees one original piece of art. Only 100 tickets will be sold. This popular event is sure to be a sellout!

The event takes place online on Thursday, October 1, starting at 6pm.

Artwork donated by Art League member artists may include paintings, drawings, photography, collage, jewelry, ceramic, and sculpture. Each piece of art is valued at $200 or more.

What makes this event exciting is that ticket holder’s names are selected at random. This allows each person to select one piece of art. You never know when your name will be called or which pieces will still be available when it’s your turn to choose. Got Art? always proves to be a lively event!

Art League of Hilton Head Launches 2021 Membership Campaign on Hilton Head Island, SC

Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, is now offering three free months of membership (October-December 2020) for new members that sign up for a 2021 membership.

“We’re really the best value out there for artists or art lovers who want to learn, exhibit, or be involved in the arts community,” says Membership Chair, Peg Weschke. “We have a large, engaged membership and some of the lowest rates in the area. Our gallery was voted “Best Gallery” at the end of 2019 and our 2020 membership grew by 25%. Before the Covid-19 crisis, we were well on our way to outpace gallery attendance records and sales.”

“During the lock-down, our staff initiated innovative ways to deliver online workshops, receptions, gallery sales and auctions. This has allowed us to continue to serve our local members and to reach out to snow-birds and new geographically-remote members.”

“We’ll be turning 50 in 2022, and we’re more committed than ever to keeping our offerings exciting, fresh and fun as we continue our core mission of inspiring visual arts for our community and its visitors.”

For almost 50 years, Art League of Hilton Head, on Hilton Head Island, SC, has been the Lowcountry’s creative core for the visual arts with their beautiful gallery, teaching academy and special community events.

As the League launches its 2020 membership campaign, “Hang with the Best”, they are honored to have been chosen as ‘Best’ in a survey of both the Island Packet and Hilton Head Monthly readers.

Art League believes that by nurturing the artist, they enrich the community. Their members are part of a vibrant arts community that inspires, educates, supports and promotes them.

Members also enjoy the best Lowcountry value for their membership dollar. Membership starts at $55. Exhibiting membership costs $140 – with no requirement for monthly volunteer hours. Higher-level, patron memberships are available and range from $150 to $1,000. Membership includes all visual arts categories. However, jewelry artists need apply for space in the gallery display cases.

Membership benefits include discounts on academy workshops, monthly newsletter and e-mails, ‘Open Studio’ sessions and access (as available) to personal studio space. Exhibiting members display and sell at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and other satellite galleries. This membership level includes access to be the ‘featured’ artist in the center of the gallery with significant advertising and promotion of their work. Patron memberships include appreciation gifts, discounts on gallery artwork and invitations to special private events.

Over $5,000 in cash prizes were awarded. The exhibit runs through June 1, 2019, at Art League Gallery located inside Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

The “2019 Biennale” exhibition will be free and open to the public from May 7 – June 1, 2019 at the Art League Gallery, located inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, SC. An opening reception and awards ceremony will take place on Friday, May 10, from 5-7pm. This exhibition will take place during the run of a professionally produced performance of “A Chorus Line” on the stage of Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. Since the gallery is located inside the Arts Center, we expect to host an additional 100 to 200 theatre-goers each evening in addition to our regular visitors.

Cost: A non-refundable fee of $35 enables each artist to enter 1 application of work. Artists may submit additional applications for $10 each. Limit three. 1 image per application.
